I pick option #1, but I also think #2 comes in a close 2nd.

I like No. 2, but put them together in the middle and use the background for borders. Any way you decide, it will look nice and the recipient will know you made it with love.

I like option 1 but I think the purple overwhelms the blocks. JMHO
