I have 6 drop dead gorgeous SILK asian fabric samples roughly 8 x 11 in size. They are different colors and patterns. I want to make something to showcase the fabrics in an oriental design. Does anyone have any design suggestions? I keep dreaming and nothing has come to mind yet. Thanks for ideas.

I love oriental fabrics. I used a lot of my collection making a crazy quilt. I had an embroidery card with oriental motifs. I used it to create each of the centers of the crazy quilt blocks. I won vendors choice for that quilt at our guilds last quilt show.

A few of my friends have made this, and I'm collecting to fabrics to do it too. It's really a beautiful and simple way to showcase Oriental fabrics. It's a 20" X 28" block or hanging based on a door in China. It was a web bonus on the McCall's site.

Here are a couple of pictures:

McCall's has new one in honour of their latest tour to China called Window on China.
Here's the link:

It's nice, but I prefer the Door block.
Good luck! I'll be interested to see what you end up doing with them.

Sounds like fabric for fans....Make sure you put a lightweight stabilizer on the back of the silk for a quilt.
