I don't have an Ott but the floor lamp I got works great. I would go with a floor lamp.

Same set up that I have! I love my Ott Lights. The floor model is on rollers and has a magnifying glass. So if I want to roll it into the living room and do some handwork, I'm all set.

I have an OTT floor lamp and it weighs a ton! I love it. I also have a small one that is great for when I'm doing applique. :)

I have four Ott lamps and have had problems with all but one of them. The craft one that has a small plastic stand is too light on the bottom and falls over every time I use it. I finally just put it away. The one with the gooseneck has a very heavy base and I use it on the table by my machine, this is my favorite. My bedside one and my big floor lamp have a problem with the extendable neck sliding down. After I get them set at just the right height, they slide right down to the lowest level. My DH finally put duct tape around them to hold them in place. But of course that means I can't adjust them at all anymore. I will not buy another lamp by Ott. There are many lamps on the market that are just as good and quite a bit cheaper. What we are paying for is the fancy lamp. The bulbs can be found at Home Depot. I use those bulbs now in all my lamps and find them to be quite adequate.

I got the floor and desk off-brand lights at Joannes. Love them both. I couldn't justify the double cost for the brand name especially when the off brand was 50% off.

I have the ott light floor model. I LOVE it. I couldn't work past dark because my lighting was so bad. DH wanted to put a hanging neon type over my sewing table and I vetoed that. I saw the ott light at lowes floor model for $80.00. I don't know how I did without it. I does have a tendency to tip a little when you turn it to the narrow side of the stand as it goes around 360 degrees. But I really don't have a problem with that. The goose neck and the 360 together is wonderful. I can use it else where in the room witch I like.

I got one for Christmas! I love it! It makes a HUGE difference. I'm thinking about getting another one for the family room, so when I do my hand sewing I will have better lighting too. I love mine! It came from Joannes, too. Get it, keep the receipt and the packaging, they will take it back it you don't like it. ;-) ;-) :?

Hmmm, could you wrap an ankle/sand weight (smallest one you could find) around the bottom of the base?..Not exactly decorative but I think it would do the job...
