Overwhelmed by my stash

I've always purchased the fabric for projects as needed and I had a small collection of fabric in my stash until recently. I acquired a black garbage bag full of fabric from my mother on top of fabric i collected on a couple of shopping sprees. I've also been collecting thrift store finds for some scrappy looking projects in the future. I have everything organized really pretty and i love looking at it.
The problem is, i don't know what to do next. It seems like i just can't make any of it go together or visualize anything with it all. It's mostly the stuff from my mother that's bothering me, we don't have the same taste in color or design.
My boyfriend says not to worry because i will eventually find more fabric to make it all come together. That means my stash would get larger and possibly more overwhelming. I could easily become and unruly hoarder and He has always been an enabler
What would you do? Wait until the stash grows even bigger and there are more options? Do you pick fabrics and take them to to store to find more to go with it?

Me ? I would thank my lucky stars to be able have a large stash.You could always find some other quilter who is in need of fabric. Love Letty

It's taken me awhile to figure out what's what with fabrics and I would give yourself some time . In the meantime sort them into colors or/ and sizes, put them away( or not) and think about what values they are( light medium dark) and what kind of fabric they are - polyester blend? Or knit or cotton blend. Silk, linen. Etc. if you have a lot of novelty prints, you could make an. " I spy" squares quilt. I love the idea of foster kids quilts!enjoy and have fun with them!

I have a different way of handling the problem--every few years I set some rules and make as many quilts as I can from my stash. This year is one of those years and I am making scrap quilts from my stash. I have found several scrap quilts on line and have downloaded several and a few scrap quilts magazines. I will post pictures of the ones I have made in the next few days. So far there are 6 of the wwwith two more in the works

I certainly hope i didn't sound ungrateful to have received my mothers stash. I wouldn't turn down anything that could be used. I've had some ideas about which fabrics go together and patterns are starting to form in my head. Once i learn some more patterns and see how different things fit together, i will have more ideas.
I wish money wasn't an issue. I would make a quilt for anyone who wanted one, it's fun. I have to be extremely thrifty and i am where i am now only because i am very frugal at times. That's part of why moms stash was gifted to me, she knows i will treasure it.
