I wasn't impressed, other than all the machine work done on it.
I have a picture of it. and have looked close. The material is a Dark Navy blue. It does have lots of work on it. But not something I would want to make. It is an Art Quilt for sure. I took lots of pictures. and some of the quilts were just wonderful. all the work and thought that went into them

Wow, that is beautiful. What a work of art. I'm in awe.

The maker of this quilt told me it was black fabric. I talked to her at the show. It sure looked black to me.

You know, I saw that quilt at Road to CA, and I have to say, IMHO, it's not really much of a "quilt", but more of a painting on fabric.

I am beginning to have serious issues with all these art quilts turning into paintings on whole cloth quilts....lots of paint, embellishments, crystals, etc. on an otherwise nondescript whole cloth quilt.

IMHO, again, painters are painters, and quilters are quilters. Paint on a plain quilt is not a show winner. Again, IMHO.

Hmmm - interesting dicussion brewing here! I like it and greatly admire the work in it, but whether it's a 'quilt' or not, well, is a wholecloth a quilt? I think we'd all agree that it is and this is a kind or wholecloth, surely? I like that there is so much devleopment in the contemporary and 'art quilt' style. I think that pushing the boundaries of our craft in this way keeps it alive and brings in a whole new audience. But I do resent the attitude that I've SOMETIMES witnessed, where the old, traditional style is seen as somehow less worthy and artistic. I think it's all art no matter the style - each to their own. It's like with paintings - I don't 'get' modern art, I like a picture to at least resemble what it's supposed to be! But I still see the skill involved in producing modern stuff and still recognise it as art! That's my opinion, for what it's worth! LOL

I agree! I love all of the quilts and consider them all art, from the 9 patch to the one that looks like it just came out of someone's blender.

I saw this quilt at the Paducah Show. It is certainly a creative piece of art. It was definitely for show--way out of my league as someone else said.
