What awesome suggestions. Combining a thought from several of them, I think I have a direction for what to go next. I'm going to add another row of four patches to the top and bottom, and add a 2" border all the way around in the solid brown. That will give me a much needed additional 12" on the length.

Trees blocks had not even occurred to me, but I think it will be perfect! I found this picture as inspiration.

I'd love to work with a dark wolf color, but I don't have any, and I already broke my fabric diet on this one to buy the dark brown. I think I have some coffee-dyed muslin that should work nicely as the background. I think the Bear Paw Blocks would be great as corner blocks.

Once I have that done, I'll see how it looks, and decide if it needs more.

Thank you all for sparking my creativity!

This panel quilt I made a while back might also give you ideas for tree blocks and other surrounds. Looks great so far.

It needs a little calm now to really showcase those great blocks. My recommendation would be a woodsy print in brown. After that, a round of pieced trees followed by pear paws. Whatever you decide, it will look wonderful.

I love the panel you are using and what you have done so far looks really good, I think some bear paw blocks , log cabin, or HST, or flying geese, there are endless choices in block you can add. good luck, and make sure you post the finished quilt, I love to see what people do with panels as there are so many beautiful ones out there.

Also you could do a search here and you will come up with a few panel quilts that are beautiful, also do a search on here and put in horse quilt there are some really beautiful ones there..
