Have just looked at a tutorial for paper piecing, instead of using paper would all of the experts that use this site advise, could I draw the lines with soluble pencil on the main fabric itself and then use the instructions as to what lines you sew first, would this work?

    Regards

    Carol

Do you mean sewing on a foundation fabric instead of paper piecing?

It might be worth a try, I am doing paper piecing at the moment but I think I will try your suggestion. A small piece first perhaps.

you can use a spent fabric softner sheet as foundation fabric, instead of paper piecing blocks.

You can use fabric or paper for foundation piecing :D Many have used muslin for this for a loooong time.

I have ironed prewashed and dried muslin (no fabric softener) to freezer paper and run it through the printer too :D:D:D

Might work, but I think you would miss the stability. I think the project would be prone to distortion.

I think you mean not to make a template at all, the answers so far seem to think you want to use a fabric template. I think what you are suggesting is to mark the fabric much like the ones you can buy by Benatex which I have used and cannot see why doing the same yourself wouldn't work... perhaps it depends on the design. Why don't you try a sample? I think it may work and will try it myself.
