i have a mid size dog and two cats that sleep on my bed with
or without me. i noticed that they always sleep in pretty
much the same place. so i keep a folded sheet at the end of
my bed to pull over the area they sleep on. the sheet is a
color in the quilt and looks nice. you could also make what
is called a bed runner which is a small quilt that goes on
the end of the bed (or where ever you want it)

For years I have refused to use my quilts on my bed because of a dog and a cat. The cat was the worst, as he was getting very old. He tended to vomit often and usually on my bed for some reason. Plus we have a border collie that likes to play while we are in bed. And she sheds horribly. Finally, after the cat died, I made a quilt for our bed and figured oh well that is what it is for. So I put it on. It has to be washed more often than I like to wash a quilt, but oh well that is the price to enjoy my quilts on my own bed.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your stories - I have read them all! I will continue to read the posts that are yet to come. I am so happy that we can all figure out what works best for us and our relationships with our pets. Both pets and quilting bring us joy and when we can blend the two they bring us greater joy!!!

Every quilt I have in the house belongs to my cat, April. I have never had any problem with the quilts holding up. I make them so I can throw them in the washer and dryer and straight on the bed for more cat hair.
