Do any of you have ideas for something to hang a quilt from in order to photograph it? I'm referring to quilts that are lap sized and bigger that have no sleeve. I was thinking of a cable system similar to Ikea's system for curtains. Here's one for signage, but still unsure so I thought I'd ask the experts - YOU!

Don't know about the one you linked to, but I've seen the IKEA one and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't support the weight. The curtains for that unit are very light weight.

There are photography rods that are used when displaying quilts in shows. That is what I used when photographing outside with nature's light. If you have something to tie to, you can always make a temporary clothes line.

I use skirt hanger with the clips, (5) usually hold a queen/ King sized quilt, then I hang the hanger part over the sliding glass door, or off a balcony... Wherever I need to depending on length.

The adjustable floor quilt stands are very nice. I had my husband mount a length of pipe along one side of my sewing room. I put a bunch of the Walmart curtain rings with the little alligator type clips with teeth on the rod, works great.

Oh gosh, I must be so primitive. I use pants hangers and hang them on a door frame. I'm interested in the IKEA thing since we are now close enough to go get one.

I just use skirt/pants hangers. Also have a 'broom stick' with a hook on the end to lift the quilt high and hang on the roof guttering.

I use the above mentioned skirt or pant hangers (Ikea has great prices on nice wooden ones) and the hang from house gutters or the side of a deck -- or even a tree sometimes. Sometimes I resort to bulldog clips from the office store-- the largest size works to clip a quilt to wooden fence or trellis. I have a garden shed that I put very small nails into and hook the bulldog clips to those nails. Depending on the quilt, sometimes it's fun to take it on location. Playgrounds with climbing equipment or slides can be fun. We have a hiking trail that has some great trees with low branches, a rustic bridge where I've photographed quilts. I've threatened to make my kids help me stage quilts on the vintage cars at a local show, but so far they've rebelled on that idea.

I"m certain the Ikea cable system wouldn't work. As you say, meant for lighter fabrics. As for the avatar, a friend in France changed his using a free program and told me to give it a try. I rather like it.
