So far I've just used recycled blue jeans as the backing and not added any batting. Did minimal SID quilting.

same here most of the time, use left overs so sometimes it may be something different.

Me too. If you're making a table topper that will have hot things set on it you can even use 2 layers of W&N and it will protect your table.

I use Hobbs 100% cotton with scrim (so you don't have to quilt too closely). It shrinks 3% which gives a lovely antique look.
