Hi everyone, I have lurked for soooo long and I am soooo mad that I must now actually join the group. Usually I make up my own patterns, but I wanted to throw together a quick project for my friend, and low and behold THE PATTERN IS WRONG! So, after cutting all the pieces, and mindlessly putting them together- the corners are 1/2" off, and I'm sooooo upset. the pattern is hopscotch quilt by laura jones (http://www.studioefabrics.com/docume...lle_Quilt1.pdf) and the picture of all the lines meeting up perfect looks so nice on the pattern! UNTIL you sew it! Ugggh. I posted some pics to show the disaster, and to prove I followed the directions on the link. Hopefully this will save someone else! Anyway, now that I'm done - I love this site! Sarah

oh no!!! what a bummer. is there a way to fix it other than ripping it all apart?

Well, the corner peices have to be bigger, so I could sew the larger triangle on, and cut off the smaller ones- but the one shown will have to be ripped. hopefully I have enough of the fabric I want to use! Ha!

I'm so sorry this happened to you too. I had this happen to a quilt I put together and I was so upset when I tried to join the sections together and they were completely wrong. In order to fix the pattern's mistake, I need to rip out every seam and cross seam of this quilt and make each 5" block 1/4" smaller. They should have said 4 3/4". But no, they said 5" charms would be perfect...which I used. They need to actually put together the whole quilt before selling the pattern. My quilt that had incorrect info in the pattern, is now sitting under my cutting table, in sections. I have no desire to rip out every seam and cut each piece smaller. There are hundreds of 5" charms. So, I wasted a lot of time and money that I can't get back and I'll never redo it.

I am so sorry this happened to you! Pattern designers really do need to make the entire quilt, not just parts of it, after they write up the pattern, by following that pattern. And we need to remember to sew together an entire block or quilt section before cutting out all the pieces. Something similar happened to me once. Hard lesson learned.

As a pattern designer, I not only make the quilt myself but then I make it again after I have written the final hard copy. After that it goes out to five pattern testers before hitting the market.

Have you let Studio E know so they can fix it or take it down?

As for fixing it, have you considering using a strip of applique? It would straddle the long seam.

So sorry the pattern was wrong. I would not rip out the whole seam. I would snip the threads between the block bottom and the section under it and about an extra inch on each side. I would then cut squares of the blue fabric and sew them on like a snowball block. I wouldn't even remove the blue triangle underneath until I checked the fit. If everthing looked good, I would them cut away all the underlaying fabric back to just the 1/4 inch seam. Then it would be simple to resew sew that section of the seam. I know that doesn't get the perfect fit you were hoping for with the light blue and dark blue but if the blue and tan is fixed to line up, I don't think it will be noticeable. Of course this will only work if you have enough of the blue fabric left. Good luck.

I suspect the designer just made a block and was in a hurry to put it up. What a shame to not come up with something that could be made and turn out as it should.

Bummer! That is a cute pattern too. We all hope you will continue to contribute to this site. I lurked for a long time too, but it's more fun posting.
