I make potholders our old jeans and t-shirts. Cut seams off jeans and use the strips to cut the size potholder you want. Old t-shirts cut the same size are great for batting. I put 2 layers of t-shirts between the denim fabric, then add a binding. These are wonderful gifts and so practical, they wont shrink and if you ruin one- just throw it away and make more.

I never use polyester in pot holders as it can burn you really bad if it melts.
I use insul brite between 2 pieces of 100% cotton. I quilt the top and use plain matching fabric on the bottom. I even use 100% cotton thread. Once you have been burned you will never use polyester again. Please play it safe.
Hobby Lobby has it for about 1/2 the price of JoAnn's and with the 40% off coupon it's less than $2. yd.

What a great idea, thanks a lot. I don't think I could live without this site, and I am surprised I made it this far, Ha Ha Ha Ha. It is wonderful to learn from new friends. The only place I know where everybody is happy, even when mistakes are made. Love you all

I also use the insulbrite and the warm and white in my pot holders. It works great and it is easy to machine quilt through the four layers.

I recycle all my old jeans and dingey towels into pot holders If I test sew a new embroidery design I do it on a square of old jeans then layer some old towels, pretty backing (scraps from other projects) quilt and bind it and I have a nice pot holder I always have something for a small gift.

Well...not everyone is happy ALL the time. But ENCOURAGEMENT is what I like best about this forum. When someone is struggling with whatever they are encountering, there are people who respond positively with suggestions, ideas, sympathy or humor to help put things in perspective and encourage you to keep on trying. People are generally careful to not put others down and be discouraging. And that makes this board a fun and "safe" place to spend time. There are plenty of places to get negative input...this isn't one of them.

LOVE the idea about recycling jeans for potholders...never thought of that. I have several pairs right now ready to be pitched. I'll get them out of the rag bag and give this a try!
