I just started a d9p using batiks. Which way did you press your seams? I have started pressing them open but it takes so long!! Any advice?

I press each row in opposite directions

I agree with jollytwo.I just made sure after i have the main block sewn in a row like ++++++++++++ You will see what i mean i hope. ++++++++++++

I haven't done a D9P yet, but I always press to the dark on EVERYTHING so whatever you're doing the seams nestle nicely together, since you are usually sewing a light next to the dark. Hope this makes sense.

I rarely press the seams open. I think that weakens them and I wouldn't want the thread to break in the future. Hopefully my quilts will be handed down to future generations.

On the D9P I did I pressed the seams to the side & they nested nicely when the blocks were resewn.

Thanks everyone. I started pressing the seams to one side but I haven't sewn the blocks together yet. So I hope it works out.

Press in the direction that the seams want to go. It use to be a fast rule to press to the dark but that doesn't always work out. They need to nest ... whether it's to the dark or the light otherwise you'll have pouchie seams. Then you'll have to take a wrapped hammer and wack them flat.
