Did you hear about the price of cotton going up Dec 15th? I got this off one of my other boards.

ATTENTION ALL QUILTER'S, CRAFTER'S FIBER ARTISTS. just got notice from Checker Dist. that on Dec 15th ALL Hobbs cotton batting will be increasing in price and on Jan 1 all Warm Company battings will do the same. They just did not say by how much, but when I called and asked, they said it would be a fairly significant increase, and to buy all I could handle NOW!!!!

It's not just batting prices that are going up; so are fabric costs too. I know Robert Kaufman and Alexander Henry are raising prices that could be as much as $1/yd retail.

I just wanted to share that with all of you.

Kaufman just sent out a letter stating they were not raising prices right now.

And this is why we've all been buying so much fabric and I better get some batting too, or I'll never finish anything.

I received this email yesterday from a friend. What she has to say is scarey to say the least. Below is what she wrote:

Jeff stayed home sick today so I had a chance to talk with him a bit.. As some of you know.. he is currently in charge of the computers and such at a large fabric warehouse .. these are the people who sell fabric to the designers and the fabric shops we all go to.

So heads up.. he said currently they are experiencing large fluctuations in their costs of the fabrics.. sometimes as many times as three price changes in the day. And they are not nickle and dime raises in the prices.. more like three or four dollars more a yard.. Some of their vendors won't even quote a price now until they are ready to order it on the spot.

Particularly hard hit.. cottons.. and silks. So MING if you are reading this.. stock up while you can over there.

For obvious reasons I cannot post this on PR.. but thought you all should know.. we have seen on the boards not long ago that cotton would be rising.. and I have to think that it will not be a small increase from what he told me.

So if you quilt.. or is you sew a lot ..that means you J.. then STOCK up.

I just received my order of Warm and Natural from Joann's I ordered 2 rolls. I will just have to work around it.
Since the sons are out of the house, I may store the one box in his old room in the basement.

I just placed an order for 4 rolls of batting with Hobbs directly, and asked about the price increase. They said their 100% cotton batting will be going up 10%, but not the other lines as of yet.
