So it was a bit of sticker shock when I asked the local vacuum/sewing store what they'd charge to clean my "new" old machine: $85. Is this the standard going rate now? (and, yes, I know $20 was A Deal, even back then)
Most in our area start at $99 and that is just to clean out lint and oil. To change a belt or go further the prices jump. w start out at our shop at $30 and go up from there for we feel bad for people that get ripped off.

We have a man who used to manage one of the local sewing machine stores go into the repair business himself and he comes to your home to clean/work on your machine for $59.95!!! He is certified to work on any make of machine along with type(i.e. serger, sewing machine, la, embroidery). He is a real jem.

I had to pay something like $139 last summer. I was stunned but had no choice.

Don't know what our LQS charges, I've had mine done for 3 yrs on a warranty contract when I bought the machine. Next year I have to bite the bullet and pay real $$ for cleaning.

$89.00 here. I think that is a fair price. It had not been cleaned for 1 1/2 years. Embroidery machine. I do q-tip clean it after most bobbin chamges. He still gets a lot of lint out of it. He usually give the bag of lint back to you to show you how much lint he has taken out. I feel it is worth every penny. I paid a lot for my machine and I want it to be around long after I am gone.
