Someone said Singer took off the page that identifies machines by serial numbers. WRONG! Here it is: http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers
You can look up your serial number and find the model, date made, location made and how many were made on that day.
All still there!

Excuse my ignorance. How do you know if it is a real featherweight?

Just by the actual weight? serial number , etc?

It looks like a 201 made in 1952 - good machine!

jljack 09-21-2011 10:19 AM

Too expensive for a 201. Look elsewhere.

Featherweights are very distinctive looking. Very small machine, the front of the bed tilts up for it to fit in a black case that is shaped sort of like an old fashioned ladies makeup kit suitcase. Just go to eBay and put in Singer 221 Featherweight, and look at them. Easy to identify once you see one.

Or easier, go to the Featherweight Club thread on this board...tons of pics of members' FWs.

No, not wrong. They still have the serial number ranges showing year manufactured, but the links to look at the specific serial numbers and the models/months they were allocated to are gone.

I love my 201 for piecing and quilting. It's a wonderful machine. I don't think it's worth quite that much though.

Great price! I paid 250.00 for just a featherweight, you got a cabinet with yours, shouldn't take too much to get it going. 1951 is the anniversary machine, more collectible.

someone was just showing 2 different ones here the other day and the cheapest one was 300.00$. If it comes with some kind of seller warranty you mayt have the find of the month!!!!!

I am wondering if this is a good price for the machine and cabinet, or if I should offer a bit less.....if so, how much less?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Deb

If it is in a cabinet---it is not a Featherweight. know what you
are looking at. unless you are looking at the card table
that holds the FW. then, it is a screaming deal.
