I agree, always ask for the old parts. My late DH always did that with cars, and it was surprising how low the estimation got suddenly after that. Ask for the old parts BEFORE asking how much it will be...might surprise you. Tell them you are making a hanging shadow box to remind you how much your machine has cost you. |
I just had service on my Bernina 440QE about two weeks ago. It needed tension adjusting, but otherwise, it was working fine. I paid $100. Newberg, Oregon.

I always ask for an estimate first, if I haven't already called the shop to ask specifically. I don't have money to be "shocked" when it comes time to pay. I also shop around for the best deal, within reason. I don't want to pay $5 for a $100 job and be stuck with a broken whatever for being too thrifty either.
Can't say if that was too high or not. All areas charge differently as well as each repair person. |

Collected my Pfaff last week, it had it's first 12 months service $160........no matter what machine that's the costs of the service!

We paid $100.00 for a servicing last year for our Singer embroidery machine at JoAnn's when we couldn't do a zig zag on it. A friend recently checked them out for her machine & they quoted her $100.00 also, just for servicing. I'd have to say what they charged you does sound rather steep!

Thank you so much for posting this warning. My service agreement on my Bernina 440QE expires in March. I can renew it for another 3 years for about $260. With the service agreement, I can take the machine in as often as I want for checkup and cleaning, and if anything goes wrong it will be fixed, free of charges for parts and labor. DH tried to tell me that I didn't need the service agreement anymore, since nothing has gone wrong so far - but now I'm convinced that I do need it.

I paid 79 to have my Viking sewing machine cleaned and services about 18 months ago.
