10" Squares

Hi! My name is Sandy and I have never posted to this site before. I am looking for suggestions on where I could find patterns using 10" squares. Names of quilt books, or patterns using my package of squares. I have 48 all with a Halloween theme. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the board from Oklahoma City. You can always go to Missouri Star Quilt Company and they have some great tutorials. You can also google "quilt patterns using 10" squares" and you should be able to pull up some ideas. That's just my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps!!!

Akweiland 09-05-2013 09:38 PM

Welcome from Alaska! You can also google Layer Cake and you will amazed at what pops up. I love the Missouri Star Quilt Company also and check out all the free patterns at the Moda Bakeshop.

Welcome from UK. Missorie star is excellent but look at amazon they have a wide selection of books using precuts as does book depository.
Have fun.

I was in your boat when I bought a couple of layer cakes. I didn't want to waste even 1" as I thought I paid a lot for the layer cakes. I'm in the middle of this one. I still want to add some neat borders (probably pieced)...haven't decided what yet...

But I'm pleased with my progress so far. I need it to be queen sized for our bed as I'm making this one for us.

Some great books-
Schnibbles times two and
another Bite of Schnibbles. Great patterns for 5in. charms and 10 inch layer cakes.

This is my favorite pattern by Missouri Star Quilting Company's Jenny Doan, it's a big star quilt. She uses a layer cake (10" squares) to make this pretty quilt. Here's the link to the youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkm3nCferp4

Just had to comment on this. Your quilt is so cool. Looks exactly like they are floating.... What a wonderful concept.

Welcome to the board, I hope you have plenty of ideas now. Beth

Oh, I LOVE using layer cakes. You can also quarter the layer cake to make 4 sets of charm squares. I think my favorite thing to do with layer cakes is to make the Double Slice Layer Cake. Just Google it, making sure you add "quilt" to the end or you will get cake recipes. This is a fast quilt to make too, and looks so cool when done.

Welcome from Missouri. As you can read, there is lots of helpful people on this board.

By the way, I love the above quilt. Simple to make but, Beautiful.

Hello and welcome from Texas

omacookie 09-06-2013 04:47 AM

Welcome and a layer cake is a stack of 10 inch squares. Hugs too

AlienQuilter 09-06-2013 04:51 AM

I vote also for Missouri Star: https://www.youtube.com/user/MissouriQuiltCo

What I really like about them is that she shows you how to make the quilt rather than just showing a pattern.

cathyvv 09-06-2013 05:24 PM

This is going to be a great quilt - it's already well on it's way!

Nammie to 7 09-06-2013 05:45 PM

Hi Sandy - from another Sandy in South Dakota. This board will provide you with a good source of information. I'm trying to figure out what to do with a layer cake set that I won at the quilt shop just a couple weeks ago. Lots of good links to check out.

Welcome, Sandy!! Here is the site for the Double Slice Layer Cake, just in case it interests you. I just discovered the layer cake (10 inch squares) and love this pattern. It goes together really quickly. Maybe it is what you are looking for?

And here is a picture of one that I have made.

mumzer 09-07-2013 04:59 AM

All earth tones and nature how lovely.

DDuMouchel 09-07-2013 05:09 AM

Thanks for posting a pic, justflyingin, it's going to be gorgeous when you're done!

mldsews 09-07-2013 05:16 AM

Where did you find the pattern?
It's beautiful.

tessagin 09-07-2013 05:20 AM

Welcome to the board! Ditto what everyone else has suggested. MSQC has a lot of really great tutes for a lot of patterns. Have fun!

mldsews 09-07-2013 05:20 AM

Very nice, I'm going to get in trouble looking at all these quilts.

BettyM 09-07-2013 05:27 AM

I just watched a Missouri Star Quilt Co. youtube video for an envelope quilt that was made from 2 layer cakes. It was queen size, and a very, very nice quilt.

nananurse 09-07-2013 05:38 AM

Welcome from Charleston, AR!! Don't forget to post pictures of the finished product!!

maryfrang 09-07-2013 05:43 AM

Missouri Star Quilting and there is a new pattern (Sept 7) that uses two 10" layer cakes. I just watched the utub and it is really easy too. Have fun and enjoy.

BettyGee 09-07-2013 06:09 AM

First of all, justflyingin you are amazing. That looks like the blocks are floating, gorgeous.

Welcome to the board where some of the nicest folks on the planet hang out. Missouri Star Quilt is a great place to look for layer cake patterns and Moda has some that will knock your socks off. As another member said just Google "Layer cake" and you'll be amazed at what you get. Skip the red devil cake with the cream cheese frosting, you can do that another time.

gramacheri 09-07-2013 06:16 AM

Welcome from Pennsylvania! So many good answers here already, I just will say hello!

Nanoo 09-07-2013 07:07 AM

Beautiful quilt. I love your idea and plan to try it with various leaf print fabrics. Thank you for sharing.

shortcake2012 09-07-2013 07:15 AM

Your quilt is lovely, could you tell me the name of the pattern. I'm new to quilting.
