It is beautiful go grab it , I would pay the $25. At one time I had 17 old machines but ran out of money and space. Now I just get excited when I hear about offers like you have. Enjoy that baby. MNM

I'm fascinated just looking at it. That was the year the South declared war on the North. Imagine how the ladies of that era were busy sewing uniforms for their men. I bet that machine saw some war duty itself. Too cool.

It appears to be what they call a Singer Fiddle Base machine. Do they have the top of the case? My DH says it is definitely a candidate for restoration (even though it may never be a museum quality piece). You might find out that some of this discoloration is not rust but old oxidized oil. $20 is amazingly cheap. Go for it.

What do you all suggest for this antique addict? Is this as rare as I believe it to be, or are they pretty common? Does it look to be in a condition that is unsalvageagle? Of course there are no accessories. What you see is what you get. |
This machine is still working, (even if it doesn't sew). It's teaching you how to restore a piece of history and building up your confidence in doing so.

Oh, Baby!You're sooo lucky. She would've been around for the Civil War! Just imagine the stories she heard as the ladies sat around sewing uniforms and clothes, etc. during that time. What about what she's been through since then? Clean her up (gently,please) and both of you can enjoy her retirement. :thumbup:

whether you get her to work or not, doesn't matter - she's beautiful and should clean up just to prettily sit on a shelf...go for it!!
