Hi,
I am a GO addict. I've had my GO for about 6 months now, and have never had any regrets. My first quilt cut on my GO was a king size 9 patch. I needed over 500 3 1/2" squares. I think it took my 1/2 hour max to cut these out. I have made small size 9 patch quilts before and really do like them, but no way was I going to cut out 500 squares with a rotary cutter. With a rotary cutter, no matter how careful I was, I always had to "square up" my 9 patch blocks, and some of them inevitably came out just a little short. Not so with my GO cut squares. The squares fit together perfectly, and I did not have to do any squareing up. My completed blocks came out so close to perfect I did not have to do anything but sew them together with the 9 1/2" blocks to make the quilt. Cutting has not always been one of my favorite things about making quilts, but it is now. If you are thinking about getting one, there are some great videos on the AccuQuilt site and also on http://quiltpossible.com/category/videos/ I have also made a couple of rag quilts with my GO. You cut the fabric with the Rag Quilt die and the batting with the 6 1/2" die, sew the squares together and you are done. The rag quilts take about half the time, from GO cutting to finishing, as doing it the rotary cutter/scissors way. I can't imagine how any one could ever regret buying the GO. |

Future decisions a FW or an accu-cutter? Merry Christmas everyone. |
My LQS bought one at a the Houston Market last year. It was all the rage until this summer when she announced that it was for sale as well as the die cuts. So, I guess, in this area it isn't used much. I saw a demonstration, but never rented it.

I HAVE ONE. I REALLY LIKE IT. THE PRICE IS 349.00 JOANNS HAS IT FOR 249 RIGHT NOW. THEY ALSO HAVE THE STUFF TO GO WITH IT ON SALE. AT FIRST IT CRANKS A LITTLE HARD ...BUT GETS EASYER AFTER A FEW TIMES. I HAVE ARTHRITIS IN FINGERS, WRIST,SHOULDERS... I GUESS IN ALL BONES. I READ ON THIS BLOG THAT IF YOU PLACE IT ON TABLE AT A LOWER HEIGHT ...IT WILL BE EASIER TO CRANK. IT IS BETTER.

It cost $300 with the carrying case. Rather than explain it here, just google it to see. |
I would really love to have one of these, but the cost of the cutter plus the dies is just too much. What are the dies made of to be so expensive, I have to wonder!
|
Thanks Allthumbs for all the info. I just purchased a Go today. Blessings, Georgia

I purchased a Go this spring with a mix and match set of dies for making 12" blocks. I saved over $200 by getting it from Amazon. I absolutely love it! I've added many of the dies to my collection and will be getting more for Christmas. If you check all the sellers on Amazon, you can save about 40% on the dies.
I guess I'm pretty lucky. A few months after I bought my Go, I entered the Friday Fun contest on Accuquilt's Facebook page and won a second Go! I donated it to my quilt guild to be used for our charity quilt projects and for our members to use. They love it! It really saves a lot of time and all the available videos on u tube give you some wonderful tips on it's use, how to care for it, minimizing fabric waste, etc. To me it's the greatest invention since chocolate! Now I get inspired to quilt more easily because I'm constantly looking to see what I can cut with my Go. Someone mentioned in an earlier post about putting a piece of paper on the die. A sheet of paper placed over the fabric, directly under the cutting mat prevents the fabric from slipping and distorting. I've found this particularly useful when cutting strips. |
A friend and I both have purchased the studio cutter and different dies. We swap out dies with each other that way we can share. Just love it. I save my birthday and christmas money to buy new dies, but before I do, my friend and I get together to make sure we don't buy the same ones.
|
Its really not that expensive if you figure out how much you spend on rotary blades...my GO has paid for its self....time and cost of replacing rotary blades. I am very thrifty and I have no regrets buying the GO. And if any ones asks me what I want for Christmas...I say Dies please...no more gifts that I just throw in the closet.

I have the GO cutter. It is awesome. Cut scraps up for a baby quilt for my daughter-in-law to make. Took just minutes. I have a longarm quilting machine and I take the backing left overs and cut binding from it. It takes seconds to crank it through and each strip is perfect. You will not be sorry if you decide to get one.
|
the go is a great machine. it works. all the time. don't try to compare the simplicity strip cutter to it. there is no comparison. the go works, it is simple and easy. and it is fun. i got the 2 1/2 strip cutter for the go and marked it like they said. diamonds are quick and easy. i will be getting the double wedding ring die and the rose of sharon die. and the hex. and ........ as many as i can. lol. it is well worth the money.
|
I have one question regarding the accu cutter. Is it a pain to prepare the fabric ie: cutting it into the correct size to go through the machine?

Our local quilt guild is purchasing one for members to use.

Can you do strips with the Go Baby?
|
I would pay the extra for a regular Go...the baby one is very small. You can get the GO for around 200.00 when in sale.
|
No...I do cut mine into strips to fit the die, less waste. I also only put 4 to 5 layers in....easier to put though the machine.
|
I have the Go and love it. I have all the strip dies that are very handy and a 5x5 die plus the ones that come with the machine.
I want to buy some other dies but with what I have, I having too much fun. |

The studio is great. I just cut my borders for a king quilt with 1 pass on 3 1/2 yd's of fabric. I fan folded and the die has 5 cuts on the board. I folded so that I only used 4 cuts and rolled the remainder to the edge so no waste. I don't cut strips the size of the board. Just cover what I want to be cut and the remainder folds out of the way. Not difficult to turn. The Studio is heavy and takes space but I manage taking it from Maine to Florida in our camper. P.S. Love this board and all the great information :-) |
With regard to the hand and wrist issues...I talked with Linda Pumphrey, Accuquilt's National Sales Mgr at the Houston IQF, and said that a motorized crank option would be greatly appreciated by those of us with issues. She was very receptive to the suggestion. I hope they do before the DH decides to address it!!

Thanks, Katied772. I did click on this and found the product. It is more or less the same product I purchased sever years ago at a quilt show. I used it for a while but then put it away - I found that my 6-1/2" ruler and 18x24 mat along with the rotary cutter did just as good a job as I did with the big board.
I purchased some more dies today for the new Accuquilt cutter. Wish me luck. I surely hope I will not have any problems after I get it "broken in". |
I have tried the AccuQuilt Go a few times so am getting it for Christmas. I think I will really like it. Cutting is my least favorite part of the process of making a quilt. I went to Amazon and got the best price.

I love mine. I have tried the Simplicity Strip cutter, both ones, and they are terrible, returned both. But the accu-cut is so much faster and my strips are even. I am hoping I get more dies for Christmas. I have already bought a lot when I got the machine. I thought I got a good deal from Nancy's Notions when I bought it. Has anyone ever cut the rag quilt squares? Which size have you used? I think I would like the 5 inch better than 10 inch, but not sure.
|
I have a different brand and I like it too.
|
I got my Accuquilt GO from DH for Christmas.Wouldn't sell it or trade for anything!!LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
|
I just bought the Baby Go at Shopper's Rule for $99. But nothing came with it..no dies, mats..nothing! I was disappointed, cuz now I have to pay extra for the basic dies and mat which by the time I pay for them I could have had a GO for the same money which already includes the basic accessories, I believe. Joann's had them for $199. So I haven't even had a chance to try it cuz I can't afford to get the accessories.

The first turns were hard. I am into the fifth or sixth week of carpal tunnel/trigger finger surgery one hand and just carpal tunnel the other hand. No fun. I'm a bit concerned that it will not be easier with practice, but my DH has said he would help. I got it because I wanted to cut the fabric, not ask him to help me every time. RATS. So, my first use of the machine was not too good. I am hopeful it will get better. We go down to Arizona for a few weeks every year after Christmas and I got it so that I could take with me in the RV. Good for that as it is portable. So, along with my small sewing machine and the Accuquilt I was truly hoping for a good few weeks down south. Maybe .. Also, the Accuquilt does get easier and easier to use - start with just a few layers and as it "breaks in" you should find it turning with less effort. Good luck! |
I can see from the posts that most everyone loves their Go Cutters. I get why it works well for applique pieces and lots of small pieces, but I'm not sure why or how it works for borders. Can anyone explain about making borders?

It looks like it would be difficult to see precisely, especially with progressive glasses. Peggy Omaforfour please post some photos or some other information about this product.
