All my UFOs are finished... what's wrong with me???

I finished my last UFO 5 days ago. I'm going nuts! It's like that dream you have where you're walking down the aisle at church totally naked. Or like handing out the last piece of chocolate cake and there isn't enough left for you. I'm seriously in need of therapy now.

Dina 10-12-2014 04:07 PM

Well, sounds like a problem that is solvable!! Get thee to a new project. :)

Dina

I've never been completely, entirely finished quilting before. Here is my last quilt top, made for my Aunt Louise:

I chose this fabric because of the childrens book illustrations from the 1950s. She is a wonderful mother, and does so much for her family. And a prayer warrior in the extreme!

But this feeling of being finished with nothing to do is driving me nuts....

joyce888 10-12-2014 04:18 PM

Don't you have a bucket list? Do you have some organizing that needs to be done? And the last but most important question---Where do you live (close to me I hope)? I can help you with plenty of UFOs to keep you busy for years and years!

AngeliaNR 10-12-2014 04:22 PM

I want to be where you are--congratulations! I'm going to try to finish all mine up before winter break. I'd like to do something new without unfinished projects calling to me. :)

zozee 10-12-2014 04:25 PM

I can't imagine the feeling of being free of UFO's. Nor can I imagine that I'd feel like going nuts. I would feel light and airy and full of promise, like a butterfly who just discovered her wings after being stuck in a cocoon! Hmm, maybe I need to get more serious about my "cocoon" . You have inspired me to just BE FREE !! LOL. Thanks!

Gannyrosie 10-12-2014 04:27 PM

Oh, Christine- no fret , pm me your address and you can finish some of my UFO's. LOL. I'm sure there are many here on the board whom would love to be in your shoes. Just think of all the new patterns and fabrics you have yet to discover. You are so blessed. Love the quilt picture and the fabric. So vintage.

Christine- 10-12-2014 04:31 PM

You're welcome Zozee! LOL! I can't let this go on much longer, I hear a stack of quilting magazines calling me... and with a stash bustin' out of the seams maybe I can find something to cut into by midnight?

Terri D. 10-12-2014 04:55 PM

You're now in a position to make all the rest of us look bad!!:)

Silver Needle 10-12-2014 06:55 PM

Whatever is wrong with you, my husband hopes I catch it. He doesn't begrudge the fabric purchases. Just wishes I'd finish some.

sewmany 10-12-2014 06:59 PM

Oh what a feeling! I know i will never be there. Ufo list is over 75 and i keep adding new projects. But i do seem to finish the newsest ones.

Nammie to 7 10-12-2014 06:59 PM

I don't think I will ever be in that position -- just like I will always have a stash-- but that is ok with me. It's how I work best! I love having a variety of projects to work on. Good luck picking your next project!

Boston1954 10-12-2014 08:40 PM

There is NOTHING wrong with you. Now, let me give you the address to my house.

Charming 10-12-2014 11:40 PM

Seriously!!!! what is wrong with you???? lol
Do you wanna come my way and work on all my UFOs :-)

Seriously!!! i can't even grasp that.....get a glass of wine and look everywhere....i am sure you missed something under somewhere...keep looking

Christine- 10-13-2014 12:33 AM

Whew! I feel so much better now. After going through 200 or more free patterns on my computer, I found one there and started cutting. I'm starting Garden Gate Plaids, here's the download page. Click on the tab that says 'download' to find the download button.

And while I was going through my stash I found a kit I completely forgot I had. It's been covered up for 2 years. It's a wallhanging called It takes a Village.

Lafpeaches 10-13-2014 02:58 AM

The first 4-5 years i was quilting, I never had UFO's and only bought fabric for what i was working on and didn't save scraps. That has sure changed in the last 10 years. i have 5 to quilt plus 5 tops to finish, and 3 to bind. Not a lot of stash but several kits to do.

Mary O 10-13-2014 03:03 AM

That is not normal.Start a few projects. Ha Ha

tapper 10-13-2014 03:56 AM

Whew!!
Christine, I am sure glad you found something and also have started something.
I was about to PM you to warn you as you may have wound up spending time in mental health treatment.
It can really screw up your mind and soul when you no longer have UFOs. You were showing signs of a rare illness. Thankfully, your cure has started.....full recovery occus within the hour.
Don't let this happen again!

Ha, Ha, Ha!!

ROFL!!! I am afraid to count how many UFOs I have but, I know that I am not in danger of contracting this "illness"

Did you check the bottom of the sewing room closet? You've got to have another UFO somewhere.

I won't live long enough. Not to mention, I just started 3 more baby quilts

winia 10-13-2014 05:13 AM

Congratulations!!! Skip the therapy and start a new project. LOL

Quiltngolfer 10-13-2014 05:14 AM

Wow, I'm in awe of you! I'm plowing through mine and will get there someday. Not this year though.

Raggiemom 10-13-2014 07:28 AM

Christine, I'm so glad you found something to work on!

sewmini 10-13-2014 07:46 AM

Congratulations! Now, if you really need something to do I can send you some of my UFO'S. Must feel good to be able to start something new and not have those UFO's to look at.

Excellent advice, and from more than a few great quilters! I found a third project, and probably will find a fourth by day's end.

I picked out a quilt to make for myself, believe it or not! I've never in my life made a quilt to keep. The pattern was a free download from quiltersclubofamerica.com called "An Ornate Garden". I added a photo of it to the picture of the fabrics I picked out. I have each fabric labeled, now all I need to do is wash/dry/iron and then I can cut!

Strange, but I don't think I'd ever want all my projects done. Even if by some miracle I did, I can start 3 more project in a easy morning.

Your Aunt's quilt is so very pretty.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of the "all your own" quilt. Live the pattern, love the fabrics.

Jingle 10-14-2014 04:49 AM

I finish up a quilt before starting another. I have never had a UFO. It has to be a great feeling to have them all done.

Lucy90 10-14-2014 05:03 AM

I want to be there one day with all UFO'S done then I won't feel guilty starting more! Good job

quiltinglady-1 10-14-2014 05:17 AM

WOW! Congrats on finishing UFO's, but I can't seem to get beyond "walking down the isle at church naked". :D cute! I hope I never have that dream. lol

SandySews 10-14-2014 05:29 AM

Oh how I envy you.... If I live to be 150 I'll still have UFO's I'm sure.

Abby'smom 10-14-2014 05:50 AM

I am envious and have lots to finish as Christmas gifts -- congrats to you!!

DonnaPBradshaw 10-14-2014 06:00 AM

Oh man what an accomplishment! I have enough UFO's to last through the thousand years of peace! not that I would survive the cleansing but if I did, I wouldn't be bored!

wildyard 10-14-2014 08:38 AM

You just settle down right now! It is so time to get into all those patterns you have saved and/or earmarked, and all those techniques you have wanted to try but were too intimidated by.

How lucky you are to be able to jump on one of those with a clear conscience! Woohooo youuuuuuu!!!
Hugs and smiles... be sure to let us know what you decide to start next!
