I think you are AWESOME! Think of all the pets you are helping stay warm and cuddly this winter.
LOL, I LOVE scraps too! Funny how one persons junk is anothers treasure!

I save *all* my scraps for the animals! A lady in Michigan makes quilts for a bunch of shelters, and every critter leaving any of them -- from iguanas to whatevers-- has a quilt! She can use practically any kind of fabric and thread, etc. Check out

what a gift! I collet from every class I teach, I also go threw the garbage in classroom to pull out fabrics - and by the cutting table! When I make something with them, I bring it in to show everyone their "junk"

PS, I frame and donate these pieces.

I just returned from a retreat and when I asked the gals to give me their scrapes for the same reason, some of them thought I was kidding. Some of them had thrown paper in the scrapes but I said it was okey I could remove the paper or leave it because kitties like the sound of paper.

after years of donating to hospitals, i am finally doing pets beds. Just started 2 weekds ago.
i'm doing for my local shelter where i adopted my kitty Zoey. ifeel if they look good and cute, people will adoptmore. (my silly thinking) , but the kitties need warm places b4 they get a home too. the metal cages are tooo cold.

I have a box of probably poly/cotton blend that I didn't know how to use, but now I will be able to, if you will share with me how you use the scraps, do they need to be a uniform size, or just any size? How do the pet beds wash when made with scraps? Do you put the scraps in like a pillow case before putting in the bed?

Nothing gets wasted is my house. Worn out sheet, towels and clothing go to the dogs home to be put into bags for bedding. Dress making scraps, ribbon, lace, empty cotton reels, elastic etc. go to the local primary school for the kids art works, and all my threads and the bits from squaring up go to my local Salvation Army Warehouse, there is a gentleman there that repairs the upholstery on donations and he uses my donations as part of the padding.

Have you ever heard Eleanor Burns tell how she got started? She'd boost her son into the dumpsters in the garment district to get her fabric! You should hear the story in her own words sometimes ... she's a hoot!
