No. I do the same thing.

I own a Bernina 153, a 440, and a serger. They are only plugged in when I'm using them. I was instructed by my dealer that for the protection of my babies (machines), and to avoid very costly repairs this would be wise. I simply unplug the cord from my machine and leave it plugged into a very good power strip. If anything ever happens I'll only have to buy a new cord and my babies won't have to undergo a lengthy and pricey hospital stay.

When we have or are likely to have thunder storms, I not only don't use my sewing machine or computer, I unplug them from the power strips. Am I overly cautious? I didn't get much done today! |
I make it a habit to unplug every time I'm through using it for the day. I also unplug my laptop when it thunders. I have surge protectors, but just feel safer unplugging. Darn things are too expensive and it would be a pain to have them replaced--especially the sewing machine--even if the insurance pays most of it.

Better safe then sorry. I say unplug.

You can never be too cautious when it comes to storms. FEMA did study of why the death count, 160 was so high during the Joplin tornado. The main reason was that people ignored the tornado warnings until the tornado was on them. No you can never be too cautious.

I unplug my machines along with my computer and my double oven. We once had a repairman out for our fridge and he told me that when a lightening storms comes thru it would be wise for us to cut power on the oven because the repair on the circuit board would run around $1000. and guess who doesn't have that kind of money! We also unplug the TV. Oh, the fridge had to be replaced or we could have spent $978. to have it fixed....hence...the unplugging! (lol)
