Great idea, but I need to do that with the old spools of thread too. I have one drawer in a cabinet, and these are BIG drawers, filled to the brim with every color of thread you could ever want, except when you need to hem new drapes and they are dark olive green and you have to postpone doing them until you can get to town.Figures, doesn't it?

Great idea!!!

I just love "half-full vs. half-empty glass" people. It's all in how you look at things. Good for you!
Great tip!
great idea! never thought of doing that! Thanks
Julie that is the same thing I do. Sometimes I empty several of them this way and I do not have those little amounts on the bobbins for the colors you are working with. Sure makes sense to me.
Great idea!!!

This is me with a lightbulb going off over my head!!! What a great idea! Why didn't I think of this? Thanks for sharing. Next scrappy quilt, this is what I'm going to do.
thanks great tip

Great tip

Been doing that for years. Sure clears out t he stash of partially used thread spools.
That's a great tip, thanks.
I am using up all my older threads to piece my quilts. Will be good to clean up all those spools that I don't really need. Good idea about the bobbins - will have to see if my older bobbins will fit the new machine.

What a great idea!!!

Great idea!

I do this as well. Scrappy quilts also help me to use up some of the small spools of thread filling up the drawer.
Best new idea of the day for me. Thank you!
This makes soooo much sense. Thanks for the idea!
When hemming quilts my church donates to charity, which are real "scrappy" I would not only empty bobbins, but use up those half spools of thread of questionable color.

BUT - I line up all of the bobbins that have colors I am not using, are low on threads etc - and use them when putting together scrap quilt pieces. Uses them up and clears the way for other colors when I need to refill. :) Julie |
Wow--thanks for the tip, that is such a good idea. I just might do the same for spools of thread I don't use either. I have only been quilting for 2 years, but have learned so much from this board. THANKS!!!!!!

Brilliant!!! Why didn't I think of that? oh, yeah......never mind.

Great idea, Thanks.

What a great idea? I never thought of that. I'll try it on the next scrappy project I work on.
Love to make scrap quilts so I love, love, love this hint. THANKS
I do this as well. I just refuse to buy any more bobbins and I hate to waste thread!
Super idea - thank you. I am just starting a scrap strip quilt top so now I will drag out those old thread spools with just a little left on them....and the bobbins too.
Wow! You ladies are soooo smart!
Thanks for that idea! I'm always making scrap quilts and never thought to do that.

Great idea. :-D :-D :-D :-D
Yes. I use "scrapes" of bobbins for scrappy quilting. Also use the bobbins instead of a spool on top of machine and use up bobbins up twice as fast! Mgrubbs
