what a great idea, thanks for that tip.. :-P

Quilter672 06-05-2011 12:39 PM

[BUT - I line up all of the bobbins that have colors I am not using, are low on threads etc - and use them when putting together scrap quilt pieces. Uses them up and clears the way for other colors when I need to refill.

Julie, I neveer thought of doing this! Great idea also using up the old thread this way! Thanks for the idea!

:) Julie

i've also put my scrap bobbins on the thread spool for the top thread - works great, get rid of all those partial bobbins twice as quick.

I love this idea I make scrappy quilts for kids in crisis and I'll bet they will not even notice the different colors either.

Thanks for the great idea. Going to use this one.

Glenn 06-05-2011 04:55 PM

I do this all the time. It keeps me from having a lot of almost empty spools and bobbins around collecting dust. Of course I love scrappy quilts. Glenn

Jingle 06-05-2011 05:11 PM

I do this too and have used any dark color when piecing dark fabrics. Wanting to use up threads I no longer use.

Rose Bagwell 06-05-2011 06:50 PM

I use them on my crazy quilting, good way to guse leftover thread.

Something we have found very common when we get a vintage machine is the bobbins may appear full but they are layed with multiple colors of thread. You may only get a few feet before running out of that color and have to rethread the bobbin thread again and again and again

JulieTN 06-06-2011 12:28 PM

:) I remember that also. Maybe there was the idea thread must match the color of the fabrics?

Or maybe extra bobbins were pricey to buy? Interested to know just why.

Julie

sewnbug 06-06-2011 01:05 PM

I do the same thing. An accumulation of partially filled bobbins drives me crazy, so I started using them in scrap quilts several years ago.

JACRN 06-07-2011 07:48 PM

What a great tip. Thanks alot.

DonnaB 06-07-2011 08:01 PM

I do too! Great way to clean out all that unused bobbin thread.

DOTTYMO 06-08-2011 01:47 AM

what a great tip I throw the thread away if a small length. If it is a good length i wrap it aroung a large empty spool and use it for hand sewing.

Bev 06-09-2011 04:44 PM

Sharp !!!

quilterguy27 06-10-2011 12:01 PM

Now that's a great tip. I plan to put this one in motion. Thanks. Who would of thought??? Oh, that's right!! You did!! Thanks!
