The purse has different fabrics on each side (so, it is reversible). That is why you see "4" different purses.

Wow that is gorgeous! Awesome fabrics!

Oh yeah, plenty of Asian/Oriental fabrics. Before I found batiks they were my favorite fabric to buy "just because".
My collection started when I was trying to amass fabrics to make a Kimono quilt from a pattern someone shared years and years ago on either Compuserve or AOL's quilt forum. Most recently they found their way into a Japanese Jigsaw Puzzle (Tracey Brookshire). Even if I do say so myself, it was spectacular.

Yes, I agree they're kind of like batiks in that respect.

No, but I have an Asian husband stashed on the couch. Does that count?

I have one piece. Nothing planned yet really but I am debating making a bag for my 4 th son's girlfriend. She is 1/4 Japanese. I would like to make a quilt with those Japanese dolls on it but I do not have a patern yet.

You and I must be related. The gold highlights were what first grabbed me. When I was collecting fabric for kimono blocks I would buy just a 1/4yd or FQ but one time I found a piece that actually had large areas of gold. It was gorgeous. It was also $24/yd back when $7/yd was king. They would not cut just 1/4yd so I splurged on a half yard. My conscience bothered me for quite awhile, 15min at least. Personally, I would rather eat my right arm than mix my Asians with anything other than a Hoffman or Kaufman blender. This is NOT, I repeat NOT intended to hurt anyone's feelings, JMHO for me personally.

I have a problem with Asians though. Ever notice how much thicker they are than most other fabrics? It's especially noticeable when compared to a batik.

The problem is getting a uniform 1/4" seam when you mix different fabrics. I have to remember to change my needle position when sewing batik to batik, batik to regular cotton, batik to Asian, cotton to cotton, cotton to asian, and asian to asian!!

This may not seem like a big deal to most, but my favorite quilts are made from little pieces (1" square) ... NOW it makes a difference!! You can't just throw an Asian in with batiks in a bargello with 1/4" finished strips and expect the seams to match. Ask me how I know :)

So I tend to use all batik or all cotton. Asians don't lend themselves too well to 1" pieces either (why bother?).

What have you made with them ... or are planning to?

I have a few but don't know what to use them on YET. When I do you will be one of the first to see the quilt. I used one lot to make Mum a handbag for Christmas last year. She is always using it. I bought some thing similar to make a bag for myself but haven't done it yet.

I have made a few of these: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-69042-1.htm and have a lot of other orientals unused. I really love them

I love Asian fabrics, use them all the time, they are one of my favorites, next to batiks!

PaperPrincess, love your comment! It counts in more ways than one.
