I went to NewburyPort, Ma today and went into a Antique store and saw these blocks for sale...23 butterfies for 20.00 Woohoo...any of you ladies know what time frame these fabrics are from? Someone did a great job on them. Love them...plan on making a quilt with them.

I think the blocks are from the 30's/40's, too. That or they're very good reproductions. :) What a lovely little group!
My grandmother had a similar quilt - the butterflies outlined with a black blanket stitch. So charming! :) |
awesome find!
Very pretty.
they sure are cute! look like 30's fabrics... i love 30's on white- such fresh, crisp, cheery quilts
No idea, but they are pretty!
my son is getting married next Aug in Rapid City...his fiance is from there as well ...and her family who still live there...maybe I'll bump into you in a quilt shop there(i"m from CT)
I would love to get some fabric from the some era...I am heading to Vermont next weekend for a famiy reunion maybe I will find a yardsale with 1930 fabric.
definitely 30's and up to WWII. I doubt into the 40's
Are they broadcloth or feedsacks. They look like broadcloth quality. I have a small top similar to that. And........fabric in my basement of the period. Your profile doesn't say where you are from which would indicate the route you will be taking to Vermont. If you should be going thru Massachusetts and in or near Sturbridge, there is a shope here that has vintage textiles. You also will be able to find new solid fabric in the colors of your blocks that you could get for sashing and borders. It would be difficult to find enough vintage solid to complete it with sashing and borders. |
40s or 50s
they almost look like feedsack fabrics.
I have no idea what feedsack fabrics are...off to go research it.

I agree |
Wow!!!!! Looks like 30's to me. I'm addicted to 30's.
I think these are from the 1930's. I have bought some from eBay and today they had a vintage quilt that had a note attached and it was made in 1933. Love them too, have these small quilts with butterflies all over the house.
if the fabric is smooth it is not feedsacks. If a bit course then it is feedsacks.
Pretty. My guess is 30's feedsacks.
oooh...little green with envy... :-D I love fabric from the 30's - 50's, and the reproductions! I think those blocks will make a great quilt, can't wait to see it when you have it all done!!
I don't know the age, but they sure are beautiful :D:D:D
Well it's the 30's fabric and if it's done by hand..if it's done on a machine.. with a blanket stitch.. it could be great looking reproductions!! Going to make a wonderful quilt..either way !!
I think late 60's or early 70's. They sure are nice!
They look like 30's to me, and butterflies of that nature were also very popular at that time.
They are so cute!! Great find :) |
Lovely blocks. They will make a beautiful quilt.
late 40 or early 50 does not look like feedsacks
I started to lay them all out...yes they are all hand stitched. I think it may have to be a wall quilt...so afraid they may get ruin on the bed with my cats. The blocks are different sizes may are large but some a bit smaller though the butterflies are all the same size. Total of 23 of them. Someone had fun making them. I am going through my fabrics and think I need to use one with flowers on them. I want to use what I have in the closet....more stash than I thought I had...always shocked when I peek in my closet.
If they are not reproductions - the 1930s.
I agree with Estar
They are beautiful!!!
Some of the fabrics look like the same ones that are in a quilt my grandmother made. 1930's for sure.
They are cute!
