I went to NewburyPort, Ma today and went into a Antique store and saw these blocks for sale...23 butterfies for 20.00 Woohoo...any of you ladies know what time frame these fabrics are from? Someone did a great job on them. Love them...plan on making a quilt with them.

I think that is about right

thepolyparrot 08-05-2011 03:26 PM

I think the blocks are from the 30's/40's, too. That or they're very good reproductions. :) What a lovely little group!

My grandmother had a similar quilt - the butterflies outlined with a black blanket stitch. So charming! :)

jpmaroni 08-05-2011 03:28 PM

awesome find!

OneMoreQuilt 08-05-2011 03:29 PM

I would love to get some fabric from the some era...I am heading to Vermont next weekend for a famiy reunion maybe I will find a yardsale with 1930 fabric.

Holice 08-05-2011 04:13 PM

definitely 30's and up to WWII. I doubt into the 40's
Are they broadcloth or feedsacks. They look like broadcloth quality. I have a small top similar to that.
And........fabric in my basement of the period.
Your profile doesn't say where you are from which would indicate the route you will be taking to Vermont.
If you should be going thru Massachusetts and in or near Sturbridge, there is a shope here that has vintage textiles.
You also will be able to find new solid fabric in the colors of your blocks that you could get for sashing and borders. It would be difficult to find enough vintage solid to complete it with sashing and borders.

Treasureit 08-05-2011 04:17 PM

40s or 50s

frarose 08-05-2011 04:41 PM

they almost look like feedsack fabrics.

carolaug 08-05-2011 04:43 PM

I have no idea what feedsack fabrics are...off to go research it.

I agree

Susie Quilter 08-05-2011 06:26 PM

Wow!!!!! Looks like 30's to me. I'm addicted to 30's.

Wanabee Quiltin 08-05-2011 06:27 PM

I think these are from the 1930's. I have bought some from eBay and today they had a vintage quilt that had a note attached and it was made in 1933. Love them too, have these small quilts with butterflies all over the house.

Holice 08-05-2011 07:28 PM

if the fabric is smooth it is not feedsacks. If a bit course then it is feedsacks.

wvdek 08-05-2011 07:45 PM

Pretty. My guess is 30's feedsacks.

kiffie2413 08-05-2011 08:22 PM

oooh...little green with envy... :-D I love fabric from the 30's - 50's, and the reproductions! I think those blocks will make a great quilt, can't wait to see it when you have it all done!!

amma 08-05-2011 09:10 PM

I don't know the age, but they sure are beautiful :D:D:D

MelodyWB 08-05-2011 09:18 PM

Well it's the 30's fabric and if it's done by hand..if it's done on a machine.. with a blanket stitch.. it could be great looking reproductions!! Going to make a wonderful quilt..either way !!

BellaBoo 08-05-2011 09:24 PM

I think late 60's or early 70's. They sure are nice!

sueisallaboutquilts 08-06-2011 03:38 AM

They look like 30's to me, and butterflies of that nature were also very popular at that time.
They are so cute!! Great find :)

Scakes 08-06-2011 03:54 AM

Lovely blocks. They will make a beautiful quilt.

Lavada 08-06-2011 03:58 AM

late 40 or early 50 does not look like feedsacks

carolaug 08-06-2011 04:13 AM

I started to lay them all out...yes they are all hand stitched. I think it may have to be a wall quilt...so afraid they may get ruin on the bed with my cats. The blocks are different sizes may are large but some a bit smaller though the butterflies are all the same size. Total of 23 of them. Someone had fun making them. I am going through my fabrics and think I need to use one with flowers on them. I want to use what I have in the closet....more stash than I thought I had...always shocked when I peek in my closet.

jitkaau 08-06-2011 04:21 AM

If they are not reproductions - the 1930s.

Rettie V. Grama 08-06-2011 04:25 AM

I agree with Estar

ksea 08-06-2011 04:26 AM

They are beautiful!!!

Tinabodina 08-06-2011 04:31 AM

Some of the fabrics look like the same ones that are in a quilt my grandmother made. 1930's for sure.

JeanLowe 08-06-2011 04:34 AM

They are cute!
