I also have a Craftsman took cabinet next to my machine and use one drawer for thread, one for needles, pins, buttons, misc. stuff, one for embroidery stabilizer, etc. I can lock it and I put a folded bath towel on top so I can press quilt blocks, etc. on it while I'm sewing.

Half of a snap clothespin to use as wooden iron at sewing machine.
Compas to make circles to use as templates. Fishing box to hold small items for each of my sewing machines. There's more but can't concentrate right now. |
i use my husbands copenhagen tins ( the cheaper snuffs are all plastic) just wash and dry them when empty , holds rotary blades great and i also use for my old blades when full i wrap tape around it and throw it away , keeps me from worry someone will get cut when i throw them away.

I make a lot of my templates from sandpaper.

A fishing tackle box for thread holder. Its covered and keeps dust off of it. I'm a nurse & work in a Doctors office. I have brought home the empty syringe boxes, covered them with wrapping paper. They are perfect for fat quarters & anything else. Empty medicine bottle for old needles, when it is full toss it out and get another. Those rubbery mats under the machine so it does not take atrip across the table while I'm sewing.

All these ideas are WONDERFUL.
If you ALL could, I would love pictures of these ideas because I am very visual and can't see with the words. Thanks |
empty Swiffer refill plastic containers for scrap strips.

I use a fine, soft bristled artist's paint brush to clean my sewing machine. I clean the feeddogs and bobbin chase every time I change the bobbin. It keeps the machine running great and is easier to use than the "mini" bottle brush that came with the machine.

I buy cheap leather gloves and cut the fingers out to use for thimbles. Works great especially if your fingers are big. I also use wooden kabob sticks as stilettos to guide fabric.

Plastic shoe boxes for storing left over prairie points, left over sashing strips. I mark the size on the end of the box. 1 1/2" 2" 2 1/2" and so on up to 6"
