Hugs April |
Stuff it in a bag and hide it in a closet!!! hehehe!
Looks like fun to me! too bad Im sooooooo far away :) Good luck
If only my piles that need to be organized were that small! Lol. I have 2 rooms full!
Just start ... set your timer for 15 minutes and promise yourself that you will stick to it for Just 15 Minutes ... and that you'll do that at least once a day. As you see the progress, I bet you'll find you're spending longer than Just 15 minutes at a time! :)
Plus ...... you've given yourself some accountability by "showing" us the before! Good Luck ... and have fun finding the fabrics you had forgotten!! :) |
Sure would love to help.. Yes.. I work for fabric!!!!.. Where are you? I'm on Long Island..

Thank you all so much. I sure hope I can get it done soon. Hugs April |
at least you have the space to have it out so you can see what you have---my stash is in tupperware bins (about 9-11 of them) so I have to dig through so much to find one piece that I MAY remember having. someday I want to organize different color in each bin a least
Are you paying airfare???? I'd LOVE to help.
organize
I just want to know how to fold fabric on comic book boards. Then I could sort etc. I think this is what you need.I like 15 minute challenges too.

That is a really good idea! I try to come down and do some but I get overwhelmed when I look at it.
I did that a couple of months ago ... My fabric was all in bins, but all intermixed. I had been wanting to get it sorted into colour groups but only saw the insurmountable lot of it all. Finally I said, Just 15 minutes .... sometimes that's all it was. Sometimes I kept going for longer. I soon saw progress, and how much I did in so little time ... and that helped me keep going back to it and doing more, til it was done! |
Yes, just do a little bit at a time and you will get it done, anything you aren't going to use....donate!

Get those comic book boards and wrap your fabric on the back of your couch. My couch is out in the middle of the floor so I can stretch the fabric on top of the back and wrap away easily while I watch TV. Wish you were in Conway, AR......I'd be over!
I bet my mess could beat your mess! LOL
Wish I lived closer, I'd help!! Just keep at it, a few pieces a day and it will be all done!
Oh boy, I feel for you April. Been there, done that.
15 minutes at a time will get you done before you know it. Also, you will find treasures in there, I promise! like shopping in a store where you love every single thing you see :-)
If you lived closer, I'd be glad to give you a hand . . . really!
I would love to help, but you are just a little far!LOL

Bring in your laundry baskets and fill them with fabric. That will clear your nice long counter for the marathon. Take one piece off the top of the pile and smooth it out nicely on the counter. If it is still folded (selvages together) than fold it once more down lengthwise to get it to 11 inches. Lay your comic book cardboard at one end and start flipping it over until it is all on. Place your cute little mini bolt on the shelf. Proceed to the next piece until one laundry basket is empty or you run out of boards. Now take a break and come back later to do another basket. A job started, is a job half done!
if I can use my alaska air miles, I will be there for you!
One piece at a time, April. One piece at a time!
you have some lovely fabrics

Do you know how to eat an elephant????:p ONE BITE at a time! Work on ONE PIECE of fabric at a time. You did not accumulate all that in one day...or probably not even one month.... don't expect it to be done overnight. I recently finished up my fabric and IT WAS a tough job  - but NOW IT"S DONE, DONE, DONE    YOU can DO IT - Put on some fun music and work away. You'll be done before you know it. Try a goal to be done by the end of March - that'll give you a whole month. |
Yep.......send me the airline ticket. :)

OMG, that looks like my sister's sewing room !!!
Get yourself some of those large clear Sterlite tote boxes so you can see through them. Label them Reds, Blues, Browns, Mixed Color Prints, etc., and start throwing stuff in the right one. |
Gosh, where in New York are you? I would help you just for the satisfaction of having accomplished it!

I LOVE TO ORGANIZE. yeah, I know that's wierd... but I have been like that as long as I can remember. I even got a promotion once for being such a good organizer. Anyway having said all that... I wish you lived closer I would be there in a heartbeat. I would just love to get into that pile of beautiful fabric and see it all neet and tidy on boards.
I dont travel much any more or I could help. Sorry |
Wish I didn't live so far away. It's always more fun to organize someone elses stuff for whatever reason. Good luck.
Oooh April, I'll help. I love do things like that. Sorry we're not closer. Honestly you'll find fabric in there you totally forgot about.

Take a small pile into another room to fold so you won't be distracted by what is left to do.
Sneak some into your dried laundry & pretend you're folding towels. Find a great book - read a chapter - fold some pieces - read a chapter - fold some pieces. Tell yourself you can't have that cup of coffee or whatever until you fold 5 pieces. Tuck some in your pocketbook & fold while you are stuck in traffic. Yep - we still like to play games no matter how old we are. :) |
I would love to help, but I'm in the Chicago area and you're in New York. As someone already mntioned, start folding 15 minutes at a time. You'll be surprised at how much you can get folded in 15 min! Setting a time limit makes it a little more manageable and not so boring. After a while, you'll find yourself doing more than 15 min. at a time and then you'll get it done in no time!
Your stash looks neat compared to mine. I really need to get it organized. At least you can see your fabric.
Has anyone considered rolling fabric instead of folding (half yard or less)? I've started doing this and its pretty nice because I can really see what I have.
Adding - when I was redoing my fabric - I would spend about 1-2 hours ironing and folding...but LOVE to iron fabric. It's my thinking time....it was MY TIME to relax
I was thinking have totes ready, but once it's in your hand, fold or roll it, rather than creating a future project. That's MHO. Do you have a plan? Could pulling out coordinating fabrics to iron & cut for a scrappy quilt organize it better? Wish I lived closer. I LOVE to play in fabric!

I would love to help, but it's a bit far. One suggestion I could make is to do some sorting, then put some of it into bags or boxes and work on one bag or box at the time. It won't be so intimidating.
