Please don't think I am uneducated, but what is a Downy Quilt.

We all have bad days. Best to get a good night's sleep and start fresh in the morning.

I just read what a Downy Quilt is. It made me cry.

My daughter was in an accident 4 years ago and suffered a tramatic brain injury that she did not recover from. She was given a Noah's Ark quilt in the hospital. It covered her until she passed away. I still have that quilt laying on her bed. I did not know that this program existed. I will definitely make one or two quilts for it.

Marie, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest sympathies. It will be wonderful if you can contribute some Downy quilts in her memory.

Only humans have bad days.

Debra Mc 06-30-2010 07:55 AM

Was trying to quilt my mother's Hb present. Just got started & totally hated how it looked so today I'm going shopping for some different thread.

Lucille A 06-30-2010 08:11 AM

Been There, done that. There is a very, very funny video on YouTube by a quilter that is called "you can quilt that out."
http://b-quilts.com/blog/?p=798 is where you can find it. that might help ease the frustration.

SchuylerJean 06-30-2010 08:12 AM

I have had a couple. I do it when I am cutting. I now know never try to cut when the grandkids are over. I have to chang the quilt I am doing because I cut it 2 ins. not 4 for the fram but will find a way to use it later. But it will look nice in a different color.

Kitsie 06-30-2010 09:00 AM

Maybe the question should be, "Anyone NOT had a day like this?" So sorry! Tomorrow is always my favorite day!

I have an embroidery machine that I was using a some blocks in a completed quilt. Something went wrong on the embroidery which wound up that I had to remove the design from the quilt (teeny tiny stitches) 2 hours later I finally had it all out. GRRR!

I have one sitting in the corner like that! I do not want to remove all those tiny stitches! Someday I will.

Psychomomquilter 06-30-2010 09:10 AM

I requested the quilt kit. I am so excited about this, something to give back!

chamby 06-30-2010 10:45 AM

Are you kidding me! YES, the other day. I was trying make a quilt block called card trick. I cut all the pieces out and started sewing the smaller blocks together. I layed out the rows and found the colors did not line up the right way. I tried about twice and then just layed it down. I decided to go on line and look up a utube for making this block. I learned very quickly to lay the colored blocks out first and then pick up to stitch together.

The quilt will comfort and be loved by a child and they don't care if it isn't perfect. There aren't quilt police on the recieving end and if there are you'll never know. lol

My Charm Pack nightmare was last night!! None of my seams matched up either!!! Maybe it is them, (the charm packs) and not US???
;-)

Am a new quilter--what is a Downy Quilt?

mhansen6 06-30-2010 12:13 PM

I have been in contact with the local representative of Quilts for Kids. They get together the first Monday of every month and I am thinking of joining them next month. I am going to start on my first Downy Quilt this weekend.

Stitchalong 06-30-2010 12:54 PM

Sure have. I find when things are not going good, walk away. It will only get worse. Give it some time and return to your project. Works for me.

whereaminow 06-30-2010 01:17 PM

I've named my seam ripper "humility". Those 'bad' days just make the 'good' days that much sweeter.

thequilteddove 06-30-2010 01:20 PM

Ah but of course... a bad quilt day is when my dear Anna (longarm machine) decides she's not in the mood & stitches poorly. On days like that I consider myself a professional frogger "rippit, rippit, rippit" Fortunately those days are far & few between :)

OMG!! That is one of the funniest videos I have seen... Thank you for sharing that. I put that in my favorites can always use a laugh or 2.

Yes, I have had plenty of those days... I think its just like anything else we do - good and bad days both. Tomorrow will be a better day... :)

candyce 06-30-2010 02:03 PM

There are days that I swear the quilting "devil" is present

joyce033 06-30-2010 02:07 PM

Actually I have quite a few days like that, that is why I own several seam rippers. I put the project away and do something else until I feel like getting it out again.

Earleen 06-30-2010 02:23 PM

I just unssewed a whole quilt as it did not make me feel good. As you could guess the seam ripper did a few holes in backing so today put on a new backing and ready to go again. Looks good on table we will see when I quilt it. Used to hand quilting first machine one. DUH

Lori S 06-30-2010 02:42 PM

Sometimes I just have to "step away from the machine", till it passes. Sometimes its just not ...meant to happen.

rismstress 06-30-2010 03:14 PM

And I've misplaced my ripper!!! I can't quilt or sew without it. That's a bad day.

Arleners 06-30-2010 03:14 PM

I get so caught up in the process that I sew for too long. Then I get hungry and overtired and REALLY screw up. That's when I know to quit for the day

barbb baumgardner 06-30-2010 04:24 PM

What is a Downy Quilt? I am intrigued.

Up North 06-30-2010 04:41 PM

gloryj8 06-30-2010 04:44 PM

mine was monday, I finally just threw it down and walked away. came and sit down in the living room and almost cried...haha just wasn't a good day... I'm not sure when I'll go pick it up again..hopefully I'll feel up to trying again sometime this week or weekend

Annz 06-30-2010 05:05 PM

Yea I've had days and nights like that.

tortoisethreads 06-30-2010 05:10 PM

Thank you for the hilarious video!! That just made my day!!!

Gwyn 06-30-2010 08:57 PM

Mine was yesterday. Today I just couldn't get started. Tomorrow is another day. What is a Downy Quilt?

DOTTYMO 06-30-2010 09:14 PM

I had sandwiched a double sided quilt and quilted it. Looking at it to admire I realised the the back was one upside down. I spent the whole Mayday holiday here in England unpicking the quilt. Finished it now all ready for the NEC in August. P.S what is a downy quilt???

Gwyn 06-30-2010 09:37 PM

I'm not sure, but I think it is a part of "Quilts for Kids" that is being sponsored by Downy fabric softener. I'm not sure I would have picked the quilt apart. Once it is quilted, I like to be done. I probably would have laughed, bound the edges and moved on to my next project.
