Just venting here about my crappy sewing day. My Downy quilt is all kinds of puckered on the back, new project...simple patchwork using a charm pack...none of the seams want to even up, another project was just tossed, because the fabric is too thin and cheap looking. Ugh...anyone else have days like this?

Up North 06-29-2010 03:06 PM

I ripped as many seams as I sewed today. And one Downy Quilt never got sent because it was Awful!!

Lady Tapioca 06-29-2010 03:10 PM

Yes, some days are like that. I usually wait about a week
before trying again LOL!

Fiber Artist 06-29-2010 03:13 PM

But...tomorrow is another day!

pollyjvan9 06-29-2010 03:16 PM

Don't throw those ugly, puckery quilts away. Finish in as simple and quick manner as possible then give the quilt to someone with a doggie they adore. They will love you and so will the dog!

Jim's Gem 06-29-2010 03:17 PM

Yes, I have had those several times.
Tomorrow is another day!!!!

tortoisethreads 06-29-2010 03:25 PM

Thanks you guys. I really don't want to send the Downy quilt. It makes me feel better to know that even the "seasoned" quilters go through this!

0tis 06-29-2010 03:25 PM

I had a Downy quilt that just was a disaster - I ripped out every seam - redid the binding twice then finally finished. I didn't want to put my name on it. I never had as much trouble with any other project.

Make one from your stash to send and spend some time ripping the other one, May take me forever but someday I will rip mine apart, The fabric is to nice to waste.

Late Bloomer 06-29-2010 03:37 PM

We all have those kind of days. I think that i ripped out more stitches on some quilts than I kept but it made me so mad that I just had to finish it just because... I just put it aside and either work on something else, or wait a day or two and then it doesn't seem so bad. Slow and steady always wins the race!!!!

tortoisethreads 06-29-2010 03:48 PM

That's funny, my Downy Quilt also has given me the hardest time! Hmm, makes me wonder.

katier825 06-29-2010 03:50 PM

Oh yes! And the biggest lesson I learned was to put down the rotary cutter when you are overtired! Now I have lots of ripping to do...someday when I'm in the mood for that.

sharon b 06-29-2010 04:05 PM

LOL Must have been in the air  Not doing so well here either

Joeysnana 06-29-2010 04:11 PM

I broke my sewing machine today. The second one in 2 months!

Twisted Quilter 06-29-2010 04:20 PM

I cut my fabric the wrong size about 2 wks. ago and just can't get back into it.

Hey SwanSong, where are you when I need you?

craftybear 06-29-2010 04:57 PM

oh no, I hope you are having a better evening

franie 06-29-2010 04:59 PM

Don't be discouraged--we all have days like that unless we are perfect which I can tell you I am not for sure. Sometimes I just give it up for another time.

littlehud 06-29-2010 05:00 PM

I have them too. Sometimes I know I just have to walk away and do something else for a while. It always gets better though.

CarrieAnne 06-29-2010 06:13 PM

Hugs! Tomarrow has got to be better, right?

Unless you cut the charm packs yourself then don't trust them. Hardly ever are they square. Then your block will never line up.
Ask me how I know?? :-(

galvestonangel 06-29-2010 06:30 PM

I had that kind of day today. I cut also 3 yards of good flannel into squares and found out they are 1/2" to small, not happy with myself. I put together one block of another quilt and had to rip part of it out. I quit for the day.

amma 06-29-2010 06:30 PM

Mama said there would be days like this...... :D:D:D
I think this is my theme song some days...

mms61371 06-29-2010 06:40 PM

When I have days like that, I quit what I am doing and take a long break. Tomorrow is always another day!

CajunQuilter2 06-29-2010 06:45 PM

Sounds like my day today.......rip, rip, and rip again......aaahhhhhhh...into the UFO pile where it came from in the first place. :-)

sharone 06-29-2010 07:38 PM

Yep, had a bad day yesterday. Did not measure correctly and then had to unpick everything. To top it off I'm full of flu. Probably should of not done any sewing at all! Today is a new day and will measure everything twice and have success!

GrammaNan 06-29-2010 08:20 PM

Have I ever!!! It was better the next day.

Yes !!!!! Walk away, Find Chocolate.

KarenSimon 06-29-2010 09:20 PM

I have those kind of days every once in a while. When it happens, I put the project aside for a few days. Usually when I come back to it everything works great. After three, either 'third time is a charm' or no-go. If it is a no-go, I put it away for several weeks or months. Sometimes they even become UFOs.

quilthappygail 06-29-2010 10:33 PM

I have a quilt that I don't like at all after putting in all the time to "just finish it" It's hiding in the closet just sneering at me every time I look at it. One day It's going to get ripped and put to good use in another wonderful quilt(I hope)

knlsmith 06-30-2010 12:15 AM

OMG!!! Same thing here! I'm doinf 2 the first one great no prob. Did the second. Turned it over and WOW!! I ripped out ALLL of the quilting. I put it away for couple weeks and gonna finish this weekend.

Or you can give them to the animal shelter. They are always in need of blankets, food and toys.

Psychomomquilter 06-30-2010 03:41 AM

question?

a downy quilt? I am presuming something like feathers?

why can't you tie the places that are puckered? I don't know what it is called. But there seems like there would be a way to save quilt without tearing it apart or give it to doggie.

sherrill 06-30-2010 03:46 AM

I am great at unsewing, most of us are I think

I'm going to step out on a limb and venture to say there is not a quilter in the world that does not have those days! I love the suggestion of using a "not so great" result (or a finished product that you are not entirely happy with) for pets. That's what I do and my kitties think i am the greatest!

If you have someone near you that also quilts, maybe they can look at your piece and suggest a way to avoid that problem in the future.

or share some pics with this group and see if we can make some suggestions for improvements. we did that a while back with someone having trouble with some intricate blocks and we all helped her out as a group. she fixed her problem and was off and running with more blocks.

just a suggestion. My motto is to learn something from every quilt I do, and I truly DO!
