I love all aspects of applique--machine, needle turn, reverse, even cut a way. Baltimore album type designs are my favorite.

I applique serval differ ways.It all depend on what mood I am in and what kind of pattern it is.

Applique is my preferred method for making a quilt top. So far I have completed two full size quilts and three baby quilts using applique and have full size and one baby quilt in progress. The trend today seems to be fusible applique but I don't care for it, personally. The fusible seems to make the applique pieces too stiff, no matter what type I use. Also, I like to do hand stitching around the pieces and it is hard to get the needle through the fusing. That being said, I appreciate the machine applique other people do. I have a seashore McKenna kit I purchased and that calls for machine applique with invisible thread. Aargh! That is definitely going to be challenging.

Thank you craftybear for setting up this chit chat site.

What weight thread does everyone like to use? I recently switched to a 50 wt and find it works great.

I have to agree with Quilter1234 Sharon Shamber is THE applique goddess!

IFstamper...depends on what method you are speaking of. For hand applique try one spool of YLI or any brand Silk 100 wt.
When using the silk thread you need to use a bit shorter of a length at a time. Your stitches will be invisible. Its amazing stuff.

I love it! Just did a lazy daisy

I love to applique and do it as hand work.

I am just finishing a machine applique quilt for my Granddaughter and continually work on an Hawaiian quilt that I am hand working. I like to sit and relax with that, so it goes slowly, but that is fine with me...it wasn't started to be done in a day. I have about 5 blocks done and need about 12 I think.

Hey Kathy,
Have you tried machine applique using a small zig zag or a small blanket stitch. I love applique too and found that if you go slow and take your time, you will see some good results.
The blanket stitch gives you a antique look to your work.

I like to needle turn applique. Next Monday I was asked to teach it my quilt guild. Does anyone know of any instructions on the web I could hand out to members?
