As an added idea, if I have to put a hanging sleeve on the quilt, I also sew it on as I'm sewing on the binding. |

I have sewn one edge into the binding then hand sewed the rest down but now I do a reverse applique in the back and it is quilted down. With the reverse applique there will be a hole in the back if anyone tries to remove it.

The last quilt I finished was for my 1 yr old grandson; the label when finished was about a 3" x 3" square - I embroidered it on my Bernina with his name, my name, 2010 for the year and a couple of hearts. I did it in brown varigated thread. I always whip stitch my labels on.

I attach mine after quilting. If the quilt is a wall-hanging, I put it upside-down so that when one lifts the corner of the quilt to see it, it is right side up.

i embroidery the fabric, then fold it over double, sew to back side when i sew binding on front, then do the hand stitching down the binding on back, therefore u don't have to do any extra stitching for the label. also, the label leaves a little triangle pocket on the back to put a note in for washing instructions, or to put some little goodies if it's a kid quilt.
