Your threader sounds different from my mom's. With hers though you have to make sure not to hold the thread too tight so it can pull the thread through.

mmdquilts 10-29-2011 01:33 AM

I have to thread the machine I'm using now by hand but when the other one was working I used the threader all the time. Just make sure the needle is all the way up.

psquared52 10-29-2011 02:39 AM

When i first got mine, I really struggled with it. Took it back in and I had a bent hook. I use it all the time now. Wouldn't' think of buying a machine without it now. Think I could thread it with my eyes closed now!

jitkaau 10-29-2011 02:44 AM

All of the time - on all of the machines.

Never had one that worked.

thseabreze 10-29-2011 02:50 AM

I use mine always...it took me a bit though, to learn, that the needle has to be all the way up, before it will work...I use the janome 6600P

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 10-29-2011 02:57 AM

I use mine all the time. You have to make sure the thread is between the needle and the plastic piece after you pull the thread over.

remareis 10-29-2011 03:01 AM

i did til it broke

lusews71 10-29-2011 03:01 AM

Go slowly and check each step...if you miss one it doesent work...they are great, be patient

mythreesuns 10-29-2011 03:04 AM

I have a brother machine and love it. Use it 100% of the time. It did take me some time to get use to it...sometimes it would work for me and sometimes I had to thread the needle my self.

Yooper32 10-29-2011 03:06 AM

Have and use the one on my Kenmore/Janome and would be lost without it. Maybe after my cataract operation Tues., I won't need it, but it is a great help.

carolaug 10-29-2011 03:08 AM

Thanks...I will have to try that. I have a Janome also but could not figure it out.

OMG I couldn't live without mine!!! I'd rather give up my kids, lolol not really, but close

Dodie 10-29-2011 03:15 AM

I love mine due to vision I could not thread the needle without it

joycecil 10-29-2011 03:18 AM

I don't have one. :(

Babs194068 10-29-2011 03:19 AM

all the time.

scrapykate 10-29-2011 03:32 AM

oh, I love my threader. I have noticed in some machines, not mine, that the thin metal piece that pushes the thread thru sometimes gets bent and doesn't go thru the needle eye so is useless. check your machine and if this is the case, carefully with your fingernail, push the metal to the middle and hopefully that will work, if that's your problem.

Buttons922 10-29-2011 03:42 AM

I use my all the time. You might check with the dealer. Mine quit working and my machine needed an update....go figure.

tweech 10-29-2011 03:47 AM

I have the same problem that you have .....I tried it over and over still does not work for me .

If you use a magnifying glass to see the little wire you will know whether it is in the proper position. Mine is automatic and I use it all the time. However the wire that goes thru the needle may be out of allinment.

luv2so 10-29-2011 03:50 AM

Is the little wire hook going through the eye of the needle?

dotski 10-29-2011 03:52 AM

i have a babylock and that was #1 on my list that i had to have. the first machine i had trouble with but the replacment machine works like a charm. ( the first machine was a lemon in more ways that this ) it may just need to be adjusted that the hook is not hitting the eye.

I just got my machine in July. Did not know that was on today's sewing machine. I love it. The shop did warn me about not having the needle in correctly could bend the threader if it hit wrong. but the machine knows where the needle needs to be. I do not adjust nothing, just wrap the thread and press the lever.

veryvirginia 10-29-2011 03:54 AM

It takes practice and I had troubles with it until it was adjusted by dealer to align properly.

Highmtn 10-29-2011 03:54 AM

I have absolutely failed at mastering my auto threader. I feel like a dang CHIMPANZEE!!! I would use it.. IF I could do it. Grrrrrr @ me.....lol

Janice46 10-29-2011 03:57 AM

I have a Janome 11000 and I use the threader and the cutter everyday. I love them.

SUZAG 10-29-2011 04:08 AM

I've had two machines with that feature and never did figure out either one of them!

Amythyst02 10-29-2011 04:10 AM

Mine is pretty touchy, but I still use it all the time, you just have to get everything set up correctly for it to work right.

quilted dakota 10-29-2011 04:15 AM

have to use mine on days my allergies are acting up (which has been a LOT lately!) i like it but its slow. . .

babalu 10-29-2011 04:18 AM

I use it on my Janome, but I have to wiggle it a little for it to work...but it does it, and I am so thankful for not having to take stabs at that tiny hole!!

AprilG 10-29-2011 04:33 AM

I use mine all the time. I can't see the eye to thread it. I was having trouble at first too. I was pulling the thread too high. Try going low into the threader. (And don't pull the thread, like I was. You just un-thread it.)LOL

Luscious Marilyn 10-29-2011 04:37 AM

Funny that question should come up today. I just brought my Bernina back from the sewing center, for it's annual check up. I told them I wanted to see how the automatic threader works on my sewing machine. Two of the gals working there, went over that, had no luck, but one got her finger in the way, may have bent it. The repairman said he tested that 10 times, during the repair. I believe he did, but some part isn't lining up or is bent, so next service call, I will get the newer version installed. I can see that it really takes some practice.

MissJMac 10-29-2011 04:39 AM

Love it, use it all the time - wish all my machines had this feature (hmmm.... wonder if there's an attachment out there that would allow us to adapt our machines ourselves, or have our "machine doctor" do it?) Any thoughts ladies?
Forgot to mention: Keep practicing. I had trouble at first, but its worth the frustration - works every time now. I was doing exactly what you're doing. Don't know what happened, all of a sudden one day everything just clicked.

luana 10-29-2011 04:42 AM

Couldn't sew without it, especially as my eyes get worse.

Linda58 10-29-2011 04:47 AM

I have 3 machines with auto threader and I have one that does not, guess which one never gets used anymore.

The one thing I have learned is that you have to let go of the threader very quickly. Hope this helps.

Selena 10-29-2011 04:55 AM

Mine works great. I love it.

Elisabeth J 10-29-2011 04:58 AM

Make sure the needle is installed correctly. If it isn't all the way up into the shank the threader won't hit the eye of the needle.

Pieces2 10-29-2011 05:05 AM

I use mine all the time. Loved the one on my Bernina 180E, so I took my Bernina 150 QE into the shop to have one installed. Had a little trouble at first, but finally got the hang of it.
Make sure the needle position is up all the way on your machine when you get ready to thread your machine. Everything has to line up just right.
