A or B

Do you prefer A or B?
If you have a preference, why? (If I would have been thought ahead, I would have just drawn pencil lines, made copies of the line drawings, and added the color later - but I was just going to do the one drawing when I started.) |
I prefer A because it looks so much more complex, even though it is just a difference in the placements of the blocks. Be sure to show us your finished piece!

I like B better, it looks "woven".
I vote for A ~ it looks like it has a bit more going on, (ditto above)

I like B - it looks more like plaid, and plaid reminds me of my Dad, so it makes me happy. :)
Like A better..just do.
My preference is A. Not sure why...I think the stripes going down first (in B) make it look narrower somehow.

Thank you for the responses.
This is an example of how/why a design board/wall can be helpful - and taking a picture of each version as one plays with the pieces - Sometimes a piece will also look "different" when it is turned. Interesting, huh? |
When being fitted at the optician's for glasses - anyone else have trouble deciding if one can see better with A or with B? or with C or with D?
When it is close - I usually choose the one I like "better" - even though - as far as I can tell - the clarity of the view is about the same to me. |
I don't think you can go wrong with either. They both look nice.
That said, I prefer "B". It's a better flow for your eye. |
i vote for A
I like B because the white center lines create a secondary crossed design.
I like the openness of B . It has an airy lightness about it. Both are nice layouts.

I prefer A. I think it's because the medium-coloured bars next to the dark squares create a colour gradient, which is one of my favourite effects in a quilt. If the blocks were in different colours, I might feel differently.
It always amazes me how a small change in placement can make such a difference in how a quilt looks! |
I like A. Something about the way it's laid out.
B is my choice. :)
For me, it would be A. Option B creates too much negative space for my taste.
I like B. It looks woven. I like patterns that create something rather than randomness.
I like them both equally. It depends on the fabrics you are useing.
Sorry, not much help. Mike |
I have a lot more fun "drawing" quilt tops than actually sewing them.

B feel "softer" somehow, because the light does not touch the dark in A. A lot depends on the actual fabrics.
"B" for me.
I like B the best as it has a less busy look. I think a lot depends on the fabrics chosen and the look you decide upon.
You can't go wrong with either choice. Have fun. |
I like A either way you present it. Somehow, it seems more complex.
I'm in the A group too....
I like A. B seems more structured. A seems more free somehow.

Definitely B
I have the devil's own time trying to decide which lens is clearer when getting new glasses! I like b best, but both are nice. I did a drawing like this when I was up north, except I had squares of a focus fabric and 4 patch mixed in the picture. Loved what it looked so I started making blocks, well I found that I had to do 9 patch instead of 4. Guess you have to take into consideration that 2 1/2 inch strings do not make a 6 1/2 inch 4 patch! Top turned out cute.
Even turned I prefer A.
Definitely, definitely "B". My eye roves all over the place when I view "A" looking for a place to rest....kind of makes me nauseousl
I believe it depends on your color and fabric choices. Will it be all solid or scrappy all over. Will the large square be scrappy all over or the same fabric. Same for the strips. It is hard to visualize the finished quilt and how colors and fabrics play together from a black and white line drawing.

B has more continuity, more put together.
B.. just easier to look at.
Both designs work well, it really just depends on the fabrics you use and how they work together.
Hmmm, I was going for A until you turned it. Then I picked B What appeals to me is the opposite orientation to the layout. That is, if the quilt is to be hung vertically, I like the bars across the top row to be horizontal. If the quilt is to be hung horizonally, I prefer the top row of bars to be vertical.
If it's to be a lap quilt (in which case it'd be used "vertically" ), then A. |
