Here's my 1930's quilt that I made for my husband, and it didn't require any background fabric. V E R Y scrappy, but I love it! Good old log cabin. I think I had about 30 FQ's and used the same red one for each center.

Here are a couple of 30's quilts. I have another backed with pale yellow. It's also pretty common in the thirties to have sashing/background in a bright pastel solid- pinks and greens were particularly popular. Pick the color in the fabrics that works best with your room, and go for it!

i love the 30's prints too and i bought a jelly roll and then some yardage for the border and vines. i used white as a background color, but there are a lot of other solids that would work as well. i may have posted a picture on this board somewhere, but not sure where. i'm not home or i would take another picture and post it.

There is a book that I got from the library, called Dating Fabrics. If you look under that era, it will show you the kinds of solid fabrics that were used at that time. They weren't very bright at all, but it helped me make a decision about my plain fabrics to use!

This is a quilt I made but it doesn't help you much since it's got so much white in it! I have three young children so needless to say this quilt is not a couch quilt. :) I think you could easily use a pale yellow, sea green, lavender or any light color with the 30's prints.[/quote]

Rachel, Your 30's quilt is beautiful. I love the prairie points! Are the points sewn to the back of the quilt top before you add the border?
