I plan to cut 5" squares in these colors and either use the gray or the white sashing. Which one do you think looks best? It's for my niece who is getting married, they have a dark gray sofa.

Grandma of 6 03-30-2014 11:23 PM

My vote is for the gray, but I'm in a really gray stage of decorating right now. It goes with so many colors.

TeresaS 03-31-2014 12:33 AM

I vote for gray!

quilter1 03-31-2014 01:55 AM

I vote for the gray, it is more contemporary looking for a young couple.

orangeroom 03-31-2014 01:57 AM

Gray! It will look striking against some of those yellows. Definitely the gray!

Fuzzykittenbutt 03-31-2014 02:24 AM

I also vote for gray!

Billi 03-31-2014 02:24 AM

I am not on the current gray bandwagon however I really like it with your fabrics, it looks really good together.

NJ Quilter 03-31-2014 02:29 AM

I'd vote for the gray as well since they have the dark gray sofa.

NanaCindyLou 03-31-2014 02:31 AM

I agree.... Gray!

Stevensgirl 03-31-2014 02:38 AM

One more for gray! I like your selection of fabrics.

nygal 03-31-2014 02:50 AM

I know that right now gray is popular BUT but I think the white makes all of the other fabrics POP. I vote for the white!

joyful1 03-31-2014 03:04 AM

Here's another one for the gray! Selection of fabric is really nice!

eparys 03-31-2014 03:25 AM

I too like your fabric and understand that the question is gray or white so I would probably pick gray. BUT have you considered putting black with it???

Nanny's dollface 03-31-2014 03:31 AM

Since the quilt is intended for a grey sofa, I prefer the white for the background. Using the grey might muddle with the sofa. Will you have an opportunity to check out the tone of the grey sofa?

CookyIN 03-31-2014 03:37 AM

I vote for gray. That would be a great complement to a dark gray sofa. I agree that gray will give a more modern feeling that's perfect for a young couple. Lucky newlyweds to be getting such a special gift from you!

Jackie Spencer 03-31-2014 03:54 AM

Your quilt is going to be beautiful, I would go with the gray also.

dakotamaid 03-31-2014 03:55 AM

Love those yellows! Yes, gray! :)

I agree. I think the black would make it pop.

quiltin-nannie 03-31-2014 04:18 AM

I'm choosing the gray! Love those yellows!

Lori S 03-31-2014 04:29 AM

I think the white really shows off the beauty of each fabric.

bigsister63 03-31-2014 04:35 AM

Gray with white sashing and a thin white inner border.

marsharini 03-31-2014 04:44 AM

First let me say I absolutely love your fabric choice.

I like the gray the best. Adds a level of sophistication.

Knitette 03-31-2014 05:02 AM

Another grey vote! :)

Podunk Princess 03-31-2014 05:21 AM

Another vote for gray!

michelleoc 03-31-2014 07:10 AM

Gray, your fabrics are great and the gray makes it look 'together'.

tessagin 03-31-2014 07:12 AM

I vote for gray! Makes the other colors pop/stand out!

Likethedog 03-31-2014 07:15 AM

Gray all the way!

scrapinmema 03-31-2014 07:18 AM

I really like the gray

QuiltE 03-31-2014 07:25 AM

IMHO white or black.
The white will give a fresh crisp loo. The black more dramatic.

While grey would be nice ... unless you can match to the grey couch, you are running a huge risk that they will not, and thus, your quilt will look disastrous with the couch.

moonwork42029 03-31-2014 07:25 AM

I like the gray too...how about cornerstones of black for the extra pop?

TeresaA 03-31-2014 08:12 AM

I vote for white. Greys are weird, some cool, some warm. The grey could potentially CLASH with the sofa.

And white pops. And it's less trendy. And it will show off the greys in the quilt.

benndm 03-31-2014 08:25 AM

I like the grey

RST 03-31-2014 09:16 AM

White. I agree that if your gray background isn't a good partner for the tone of gray in the couch, it's not going to look good on it, and there are just so many shades of gray. White allows the fabrics to stand out and look fresh, will not clash with the couch or other gray in their decor, and makes for a more visually interesting quilt-- there's very little value variation with the gray.

Three Dog Night 03-31-2014 09:18 AM

I vote for the gray.

BrendaK 03-31-2014 09:43 AM

Man! I just don't know. I think that the gray would look good then I also agree about the color clashing with the couch. Love your colors. Whatever you do I know that this will be a beautiful quilt. Be sure to show us when you are finished. BrendaK

alfosa421 03-31-2014 10:12 AM

Gray seems to enhance the blocks better

Jim's Gem 03-31-2014 10:26 AM

I also vote Gray!

IMO, the white background looks like the pieces are just LAID under th blocks-----------not a part of the design like the gray will be
