I was at a local wholesale the other day and he showed many shelves of "header Cards" These are cards the manufacturer makes to show off the fabrics in a line. He also has boxes of short pieces of fabric he got from fabric companys.
If these were put in bags and offered in the quilt shop.....Would you buy it. It is all good first quality fabric. One card had 5 pieces on it ranging from smallest about 12" up to almost full width x 12" |
how is it attached to the cardboard? is it glued? the glue may not come off. stapled? it may leave holes. proceed with caution.
that being said, if you like the fabric and the price is right and you think you can use it anyway, then why not? is it 100% cotton? |
Yes, yes I would.
love the scraps, i sure would
Yup. Love the scrap box
Sure would. It beats having to buy a fat quarter when you only need a patch.
I would take it in a heartbeat. I love finding and using that kind of stuff.
Sure , if the price is reasonable for what is offered. People buy precuts , so why not. One fabric shop by me sells 2 &1/2 inch strips by the each , so you can make up a custom jelly roll or just buy a few.
Oh heck yes as long as it is reasonable and useable!
My DIL has purchased beautiful sample packs and made outstanding scrappy quilts. The prices were unbelievable. The samples were glued to the label, she just cut the fabric at the edge of the label. Her quilts are really outstanding and the quality of the fabrics is top quality!

A local quilt shop sells these for $1 a piece. If it is fabric I like I buy them. they just have a big box under a table or in a corner and people like to dig through. I like finding several of the same cards so I have enough for a little top or I put cards together that will blend. I think selling by the bag will not work as people might not like everything in it unless it is from the same line and it matches.

I have bought boxes of these salesman samples off Ebay and they are usually stapled onto the cardboard header. I do scrappy quilts and buying fabric like this, gives me 'some' of all the fabrics in the line. I've seen them range from 6 inch squares to 6 x 12pieces, up to 12 x 18 inches pieces. I love to find deals like these, so YES...I would buy them in a heart beat!!

Yes I would if the price is right :D:D:D
I sure would like to be able to get some.
I would buy them, you bet. I'm a scrappy kind of quilter, so I can find a project for almost any size.
I buy these all the time, but probably pay less then your contact is asking. Some of them have large amounts of fabric.
Would certainly buy them .... have made several lap quilts with
decorator samples (heavier than quilting cotton, more like for drapes, pillows) |
my daughter brought some of these home from work where they were tossing them. I dont think i would buy them but hey for free yes why not. I cut them off where the staples were and got a few strips and a five inch square out of them. all christmas fabric. there weren't really that many but I got a pack of nickles out of them.
I would buy them.
I know I would buy them!
yes i would buy it if not too much
YES...
You tear off the header paper as much as you can get off and the gently wash the adhesive away... |
I would, I love scrappy quilts!

I'd buy them if I liked the color/s. It sounds like a good price for good fabric.
You bet! where can I find them?
I have purchased cards like you describe and they have been great for fillers. Especially, since they are batiks and so pretty.
Have bought some salesman samples and are fun to use in scrappy quilts!
I've made several scrappy quilts from this type of find. My one source doesn't sell them anymore and I miss that so much. Would love to find another source.

I would definatly buy these. I make more scrap quilts than any other. Also applique.
Definitely! I have purchased them off of eBay (altho not recently) for cheap. I like it that it is high quality fabric.
Yes, I like scraps and scrappy quilts and i don't have many yet.

There is a quilt shop within driving distance that gets salesmen's samples of cotton fabrics but not on the header cards. They are usually groups of 4 to 8 colorways in various sizes similar to what you saw. Owner bags these into 2.5 lb. bags and sells them for $7 each on special sale days such as Super Bowl Sunday. I have purchased them many times and always find enough fabric that I like to be worth the $7. What I don't like, I either use in charity quilts, trade or donate. Love, love, love these bags.

I don't know if I bought the same thing but I was in a shop that sold some of the enders and leaders of the bolt and they were selling them by the pound. I love scraps and felt that I got a great deal because I didn't have to buy yardage but got some pieces to fill in for a lot of blocks. Some of the pieces were fairly large too! It was awesome!
I went to a craigslist sale that had loads of fabric samples like you're talking about. I think I spent $90 that trip but came away with a ton of batiks and lots of whimsical fabric pieces that I wouldn't have bought yardage of. Many of the samples had the same fabric but with different colorways. When I picked each one out, I kind of had a project in mind. It was so much fun for me, and DH was right by my side, saying--here, you need this one too, don't you? So, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase more if given the chance...

I would buy them. I like scrappy quilts they are so cozy
I was fortunate to be given a huge pile of them from my LQS owner. I was in the shop at the right time. They were glued on so I just used the rotary cutter. The smaller pieces went straight in the scrap box and the rest were cut up into charms of varying sizes. If I saw them again I would snap them up.
you bet scraps make the best quilts
