Thanks Jennifer23! It was a surprise for sure! One I should have thought of tho, as I have shopped a lot in the US for fabric!
So, I've spent the last week making arcs, and ovals and middle pieces. I haven't joined anything yet. I think I might wait until I have them all done before I sew anything together so I can move the middle pieces around. I have five different "creams" and six different blacks for the middle, so I will be "mixing" those up throughout the quilt. I also just realized that I need to do "opposite" ends of the arcs with blacks ... I can't do them all the same, so I have to keep that in mind when I make the next batch! Am I ever glad that I've done the double wedding ring quilt before so I can understand what I am trying to do, since I am not using any of the colours from the pattern! Here's what I have so far |
That is going to be gorgeous!

Love how you're keeping the darker fabrics mostly to one end of the arcs.
Will look fabulous when finished. |
That is going to be one gorgeous quilt! Can't wait to see the finished project!
|
Looks like you are off to a great start. I'll be watching your progress too. Those are some beautiful fabric choices.
|
Your quilt so far, is stunning, and I to have subscribed to your thread to stay in touch with your progress. I have not made the quilted version of the Double wedding ring, but I did crochet it for my DIL. and believe me it was a ONE TIME Afghan. lol. But I have the acrylic templates to under take the DWR quilt. Good luck with your amazing quilt.

Absolutely GORGEOUS colors and fabrics!
I have one going in process now and it's going to take me forever to do. I put it aside to work on something else, but you have inspired me again to work on it and get it done. Thanks for posting progress... I can't wait to see how yours progresses. Awesome! |
Beautiful! I have been collecting batiks for this pattern for a while. Now that you are tackling it, I'm going to follow your progress. I might start mine too, now. :)

Wow! That is going to be gorgeous! I can't wait to see your finished quilt!
I started a DWR a couple of weeks ago and haven't gotten very far yet, with family and life always on the go. |

OK here are 100 of half of the middles. I still need to make another 100 of the "dark" blacks
And then finish my arcs LOL - that will take me forever! |
Great color choices! Love how they stand out
|
Love your fabrics, but be sure to check for color fastness.

Looking good!

I'm a subscriber, too. Your colors are great. I think your finished quilt will be outstanding. I bought a JN pattern recently. I will watch your project anxiously. Thanks for sharing with us.

All the other 'halfs' are done ... now I am off to finish all the arcs ... this is very boring LOL the repetitiveness of this pattern is mind boggling!!!! I now understand why people don't want to do it!
But I will persevere and get them all done by the end of next week - this is my promise to myself! Then I just have to lay everything out and start sewing! |
I am so enjoying your updates. I think in this case boring will equal beautiful!

So all my paper piecing is done - I'm really not sure what I was thinking LOL ... I should have made this a 4-block hahahaha!
Here's one circle ... making more all day today and tomorrow, it is -30 today in Ottawa, with a windchill, so outside is not really an option for me!! |
That is so rich and sophisticated looking - I am so excited to see it finished.
I love the journey you are taking us on with you. |
It is so pretty!

So here are 6 blocks - once again, just like in the double wedding ring quilt, I'm having freaking problems with the middle - it will work out in the end ... but naturally, no matter how "perfectly" I line everything up ... it ALWAYS does this!
It's not crooked, it's on the floor, and I'm standing above it! |
BIG sigh, and lots of swear words LOL ... So I just realized that I was putting it together wrong. I took the middle parts apart because I was having problems with them lining up ... so then I looked at the instructions and realized I was supposed to make them into "squares" and sew in strips.
So I just spent the last hour taking lots of stitches out! Let's hope that solves my problem, and thankfully I figured it out now, instead of 49 squares later! I was assembling it like I did the double wedding ring quilt ... guess I should have read through the instructions more carefully LOL |
You are doing a great job, swear away!!
|
So glad you discovered what the problem was at the front end and not the finished end.
I will close my ears while you swear away - always good to vent! |
Yes, it is a very good thing I figured it out now ... although completely my fault for not reading the instructions LOL
|
I have one I started, just need to finish it. It is one of my UFOs.
|
It's really beautiful. Glad you worked out your problem
|
I made this quilt years. It was call the wedding ring star. Nice work, keep it up, it's looking wonderful.
|
I am in love with your colors and color placement. I've always wanted to make this one. Now, I really want to make it! It's just beautiful and I thought the picture above was PERFECT.....
|
Jan - it was sewn together perfectly, except the middles weren't matching up! It was too bulky!
After investing in about 1000 safety pins I have bowed down to following the instructions - not something I am fond of doing, which is one of the main reasons I don't usually buy patterns LOL |
