Bali Star Wedding Quilt - Start of Thread!

4 Attachment(s)
Last year I did the double wedding ring quilt for a friend of mine, and really enjoyed making it. And then I saw the Bali Star Wedding Quilt and fell in love love love!

So, that is my project for 2017.

Ordered the pattern online, and started reading how much fabric I needed and almost had a heart attack! Found a place in NY - Mount Pleasant Quiilting http://www.mtpleasantquiltingcompany.com/ and they can make up the kit for you! I was thrilled. Spoke to a wonderfully fabulous amazing woman named Patti (so if any of you know her, feel free to show her this thread!) and told her what colour scheme I had in mind!

I didn't want to go completely bonkers with all those colours, and my bedroom is black, red and cream, so that is the colour scheme of my quilt. Red arcs and black stars and squares and a cream background

Here is a pic of the pattern for those that aren't familiar with it:

And here are the gorgeous fabrics that Patti chose for me!

I'm going to update this thread with all my progress, and likely questions!

Wish me luck, I'm thinking I might have bitten off more than I can chew ... but I have 11 months to obtain my goal LOL

Kassaundra 02-07-2017 03:35 PM

I have been tempted more then once to make that one it is my favorite DWR variation including the original DWR. The fabrics your fabric fairy chose are AMAZING.

sushi 02-07-2017 03:41 PM

This is gonna be gorgeous!

sewingitalltogether 02-07-2017 03:47 PM

Love the colors. Good luck with the pattern. I'm about to start another of the Judy Neimeyer patterns.

QuiltnLady1 02-07-2017 03:48 PM

It is cool that they would assemble the kit for you. Love the colors -- I will be interested in watching your journey.

Doggramma 02-07-2017 04:10 PM

Wow, that's going to be so pretty

pewa88 02-07-2017 04:12 PM

Wow, beautiful. I am going to subscribe to this thread and watch your progress. I have the Bali Wedding Ring bed runner kit, plan to start it after I finish up some other projects.

JaniceC 02-07-2017 04:33 PM

I went to Mount Pleasant Quilting Company several years ago, and it's probably one of the nicest shops I've ever been in. Your quilt will be gorgeous!

CarolinePaj 02-07-2017 04:45 PM

Hi Marion's,

ohh.... What a wonderful project and the fabrics are delicious. I will be watching this thread with much enthusiasm.

Hugs

Caroline

Gay 02-07-2017 04:57 PM

I'm subscribing too. Not a real fan of red (I favour purples or soft pinks with greens) but your quilt will be fabulous.

QuiltnNan 02-07-2017 06:12 PM

I was at Mt. Pleasant today and Patti cut my fabric. They had a 30% off on colors of the Superbowl teams. I stocked up on white and was lucky to use a gift certificate too.

JanieH 02-08-2017 03:12 AM

I love your color choices. I will definitely be watching your progress.

jmoore 02-08-2017 04:24 AM

Can't wait to see your progress...those fabrics are going to be stunning in that pattern. What wonderful customer service by Patti.

Barb in Louisiana 02-08-2017 04:49 AM

I made that quilt but have yet to get it quilted. It's not that hard, you just have to pay attention and do things in the sequence that the quilt is designed. The arcs are so much fun and you start seeing results immediately. I look forward to seeing your finished project.

I quilted one for a lady in our guild last year. It was beautiful. She was a good piecer and all the points were perfect. Good luck.

susie reardon 02-08-2017 06:53 AM

Gorgeous fabric and pattern!!! Anxious to follow your journey....

Mariposa 02-08-2017 07:32 AM

It is a fun pattern, and such a great array of fabrics!

Jane Quilter 02-08-2017 07:48 AM

annette1952 02-08-2017 09:55 AM

Beautiful fabrics! I will be following along to watch your progress. It is going to be beautiful!

Jordan 02-08-2017 11:24 AM

That is going to be an absolutely beautiful quilt. Please share with us your progress and kudos to the quilt shop that helped out so much. Kindness is the best quality in people and it sounds like Patti was very kind and helpful.

MarionsQuilts 02-08-2017 12:44 PM

I read the pattern last night ... it sounds complicated LOL But since I've already done the double wedding ring, I'm not too concerned!

Patti was amazing For those of you that get to see her in person you are definitely blessed!

Now I have to figure out how to lay out my reds LOL

carolynjo 02-08-2017 01:16 PM

Thanks for sharing! can't wait to see how beautiful this quilt will be.

CoalTownQuilter 02-08-2017 01:33 PM

Everything I need to make this quilt I have safely tucked away in a drawer. I immediately fell in love when I came across the pattern for the first time! I've never made a Judy Neimeyer quilt so I must admit I'm a bit intimidated. I too will be subscribing to this thread to watch your progress on what will surely be a gorgeous quilt!

sJens 02-08-2017 02:46 PM

That is going to be beautiful. Love your fabrics.

lynnie 02-08-2017 03:14 PM

I'm trying to decide if I go from light to dark / dark to light or have dark in the middle and medium to light to the "squares" the squares will be black.

so this option has the "darker" fabrics in the middle

And this option has the darker ones at one end

Which one do you all think would look best?

Thanks!

Just had Patti help me "do some damage" yesterday, buying red, blue and white fabric to make a patriotic quilt. Couldn't decide on fourth fabric and ,yup,Patti found the perfect choice. When you find someone who you trust and offers good advice, be it a doctor or a LQS person, you have found a treasure. Mt. Pleasant is truly a destination shop located in the heart of farm land south of Rochester, NY. My car knows the way.
Looking forward to seeing the final product.
PS. This shop is Judy Neidemeirer certified, so any advice is well founded!!!!

Mary Christine 02-08-2017 06:24 PM

Subscribing to this thread - I'm very interested in seeing your progress on what is sure to be a gorgeous quilt!

Anniedeb 02-08-2017 06:41 PM

Love the fabrics! I like the first option, with the darker in the middle.

sharin'Sharon 02-08-2017 09:42 PM

I'm another to continue following this thread. Your fabrics are gorgeous. And kudos to Patti for her assistance. People like that make life wonderful. Keep the adrenaline flowing!!!

Vicki1212 02-08-2017 09:51 PM

I also prefer Option 1. This is going to be a really stunning quilt! Can't wait to see the end result.

P.s. How do I subscribe to this thread?

Gay 02-09-2017 04:38 AM

Vicki - go to 'thread tools' at the top of this thread - select 'subscribe to this thread' - then 'add subscription'.

Jan in FL 02-09-2017 05:04 AM

It is going to be stunning! I am also subscribing to your thread. I have not attempted to make any variation of a Wedding Ring pattern but this one is by far my favorite. Thanks for posting.

Love the colors!! Post frequently so we can watch your progress. Just as a FYI, Tennessee Quilts is a Judy Neimeyer approved shop, and they will make up kits for any of her patterns They carry patterns, papers, etc............Check out their website....Shipping from there may be less expensive for members in the Midwest and west coast.............and if you are ever in the area of eastern TN, you should truthfully make a stop in this shop!

BEST OF LUCK with your quilt.................I am certain you will make your goal, and that your quilt will be absolutely wonderful!!!

I was visiting a friend in Brevard NC, and we actually drove to this shop, where we spend a full, glorious day checking our fabrics, patterns, etc.............Needless to say, we both came home a bit poorer that day.

linmid 02-09-2017 05:30 AM

Lovely colors and look forward to seeing your progress

MargeD 02-09-2017 02:51 PM

That is going to be an absolutely gorgeous quilt. Can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks, but I live in Ottawa, ON Canada, so all those stores are far away from me!

Here's a funny story about the fabrics tho. When I talked to Patti, I gave her a budget of $400-$500 for the fabric (not including the backing of course). When all was said and done, it was $510 including shipping. I told her no problem, charge my credit card. Which turns out to $760 Canadian LOL ... PLUS I had to pay $95 on duty.

I'm not complaining at all because here in Canada, we just don't have the selection of fabrics that you have in the states!

Fabric Galore 02-09-2017 03:52 PM

I agree with Anniedeb; I like the dark fabrics in the middle also.

Just so you know, Erin at Around the Block in Beaverlodge, AB also does gorgeous custom kits for Judy Neimeyer quilts. I found her prices reasonable, and it avoids the exchange and duty uncertainty. Obviously you won't be needing another any time soon, but I wanted to mention it for any other Canadians inspired by this thread :)
