batiks - two or three colors to use together?

According to your own tastes... if you were to pick two or three colors of batiks to use together in a project of your choosing, which colors would you use?

DawnA 07-18-2012 06:43 AM

blue, gray, and yellow. Im really into pairing grays with bright colors right now. Its so pretty...do they make gray batik?

I like the warm tones of fall, Orangy red, yellowy with another color, and a great chestnut brown that had some great fall colors with it.
Every year I look for a really great chestnut brown that has other fall colors mixed in( small scale) ... still looking.

jannm 07-18-2012 06:55 AM

I would pick a green and aqua combo. Probably 2 medium values and a light.

Jennalyn 07-18-2012 07:07 AM

Violet, teal, and emerald if I was going for everything in the same family. Brights of each so that I could pair them with black and make them pop! Mad jewel tone love over here.

jillnjo 07-18-2012 07:25 AM

I just chose the jewel tones-bright rose, lime green and blue.

Sewnoma 07-18-2012 08:06 AM

Today I'm in the mood for a green/blue/purple color set. Tomorrow...who knows! :)

Jim's Gem 07-18-2012 09:30 AM

Purple blue and green

LyndaOH 07-18-2012 09:32 AM

I'm also a jewel tones girl! Not that I don't buy every batik under the sun!

lindy-2 07-18-2012 09:40 AM

red orange yellow ive had a hard time finding good batikes in those colours

quiltsRfun 07-18-2012 10:49 AM

Probably different shades of blue and tan. Think beachy.

ArtsyOne 07-18-2012 11:10 AM

Today I like the turquoise/red combo. Maybe next week it'll be black and white with lime. Every time someone posts a quilt I change my mind.

Here is a quilt I am working on. Maybe the blocks will give you an Idea of which three look great together. I love them all.

SuzyQ 07-18-2012 12:18 PM

hmm, right now I'm playing with emerald green, dark blue, and rust/orange. Or maybe the green, rust/orange, and deep purple. I'm into high contrasts that will really pop

The Oregon Quilting Challenge for the next TV program are purple, teal, and dark rose.

HilaryK8 07-18-2012 02:16 PM

I love all things batik. I'm currently working on a really great pink and grey quilt. But I also love the idea of green, blue and purple.

Let us know what you decide!

purples and greens for me. love me some batiks!!!!

woody 07-18-2012 03:03 PM

Purple, blue and aqua, I love that combo. But I love batiks so just about any combo works for me. :)

Neesie 07-18-2012 03:48 PM

Either blue, green & purple OR purple & red.

dunster 07-18-2012 04:03 PM

I love browns and greens - those are "my" colors - but I seldom quilt with them together for some reason. I think good browns are hard to find.

I agree completely about the good browns..a very rare find.

QuiltnLady1 07-18-2012 05:09 PM

I love the blues, yellows and greens.

barbgooch 07-18-2012 07:00 PM

Secondary colors - orange, green, purple - and make them bright!

Ditto - I love fall colored batiks - I have lots in my stash - seems like everytime I am at the LQS I pick up another fat quarter.

They do! I was just looking at some gorgeous gray/silver batik over at Fabric Depot... yum!

That would be my pick, too... some mossy greens, some warm browns, a dull gold, &/or a muted rust... YUM! And to think I didn't used to like batiks!!!

I made the attached "Yellow Brick Road" for my DH out of a variety of earthy batiks (I think they were McKenna Ryan's). He loves it. I think it looks like mud (tho I do like the panto on it --- moose & pine trees). But not because of the batiks... the pattern just wasn't the right one (IMHO). But, he LOVES it & that's all that matters.

I've been saving greens & purples to make something for my DIL. I didn't think I'd like them (I like green, not so much with the purple) but I love them!!!

Would a green & brown Pine Tree quilt made from batiks be super yummy? Oh, I feel another project coming on!

Connie M. 07-18-2012 09:03 PM

I used batiks in my avatar. It is turquoise, rust and black. I love theat color combo.

mjsylvstr 07-19-2012 03:10 AM

For batiks, I would like to try something in gold, red and black......not my ordinary shades but I think that it might make for an interesting batik hanging

meanmom 07-19-2012 03:41 AM

I like bright color. So I would probably use purple, teal (or aqua) and pink (or orange)

Yooper32 07-19-2012 03:44 AM

Blue/green/hint of yellow

Latrinka 07-19-2012 04:59 AM

Probly very bright ones, purple, blue, pink.

Pieces2 07-19-2012 06:23 AM

Black and red (white?) makes a striking quilt. I love reds and greens together.
Think about the room you will display the quilt in, what colors would fit into this room.

lisalovesquilting 07-19-2012 06:31 AM

Yellow, orange, red. Yellow, blue, green.

matraina 07-19-2012 06:34 AM

Your quilt is gorgeous!
