What could I make from it? The piece is 42" long by 12" wide. I've had it in my stash forever so any and all suggestions would be welcome. I've been going through my stash and cutting 10" squares for a scrap quilt backing, and have been unmerciful in my choices. Half yard or less, it gets whacked!! When I came to this piece I didn't hesitate to throw it on the pile, but after I ironed it I questioned myself. Then I thought...I'll go to the Board...they will give me the greatest advice! So, here I am waiting for your answers...thanks!
BirdHouse Fabric |
I would use the whole piece as a quilt back...framed, stripped, whatever. Too nice a pattern to whack apart. You'll lose the motifs.

You could make four 10 x 12" placemats for a gift or for the picnic table. Cute fabric BTW
Either the 10 minute table topper, or fussy cut some of the bird houses and birds and make some snow globes for a wall hanging or table topper.
I'd put a border around it and use it for a table topper or to put on the back of a sofa. Whatever you choose, I love the fabric. :)
I was thinking, fussy cut the bird houses into same size squares and match them up with either rail fence blocks or even solid color blocks.
I'm thinking...fussy cut the birdhouse blocks and sash with flying geese for a lap quilt?

Awesome idea, thimblebug6000!!! I could add light blue, green or red borders...thanks! |
I too would use it as a runner!
Wow! All great ideas! Now to make up my mind...glad I came here first. It's always nice to get a different perspective on what to do.
Hi, How about an attic window. I have been wanting to do one of these. My son loves birds and I think that each bird would look great in the windows. Where did you get it? I would love to have some. Be sure to show us what you do with it. BrendaK

Really cute fabric. They are all good ideas.
if you cut it up, i would like to see Attic Window. so one would seem to be looking out the window at the birds and houses
Have the perfect solution'send it to me.lol
Two 6 in. rails on the borders of a small square quilt. Use a matching tone on tone or a matching pieced borders for the other two sides.
I like this idea too.

I love the fabric.
Great fabric...and some great ideas. Please let us know what you decide (and you know how we love pics.).
I might try using it for a stack and whack. Could make a small one out of it. :)
10 minute table topper, gets my vote...
This fabric is perfect for applique - distinct motifs with space in between them. I would applique the birdhouses onto separate blocks with sashing in between, decorated with the individual birds and vines made of the leaves.
This is a very old art - cutting motifs from elaborate florals and appliqueing them onto whole cloth - broderie perse. :) |
That is beautiful fabric. How about a cassarole carrier to give someone as a gift.
I think you have been given some good ideas. It is sure great fabric.
I vote for the broderie perse. It would be stunning. The fabric is perfect for that - so unusual!
attic window!!!
How about making a sampler out of it and use it for the center piece, and find some fabric with birds on it for the boarder.
Apart from fussy cutting some bits for hexagon centres of quilt blocks, I would use it for borders or backing or pillow slips.
Now you have another problem. So many great ideas which one will you choose? Keep us posted!
table runner, little throw for a doll bed. Don't cut this!!!! Just too cute
Fussy cut the Birdhouses and then sampler (something different) around each one.
I would use it as a table set as well - can't remember how much u said you have but a table runner and placemats really sweet!!
I would fussy cut, also.
Oh it is too nice to cut. I like the place mat idea. That is what I would do...or s spring quilt back. I would not cut it. Really nice.

I'd make a 10-Minute table runner as I like the fabric
If none of these ideas fit for your house... you can make table topper or placemats..then send to me lolol.. My kitchen wallpaper has a very tiny little birdhouses on it, and up above my two cabinets and I have small birdhouses.
Sell it to me. I love this piece of fabric and would love to make a purse from it.
