Does your local quilt guild have beginner lessons?

Also, sometimes colleges offer continuing education classes for all kinds of topics: quilting, computers, photography etc.

That's where I took my first two classes. They were great. One was for a T-shirt quilt and the other was a rail fence. Both were very basic and from A to Z basics.

I just found out they even had a guild in my town. I sent a e-mail to see if they new of someone that gave lessons.

There are an amazing number of free videos on youtube.com. I especially like the ones by Missouri Star Quilt Company but there might be some that are even more elementary. Jenny Doan (of MSQC) also has an online course you pay for but I think it's excellent (I did it). You can stop, start, replay, type in questions (and she really does reply to them).
