Been there ... done that.

Have also had patterns that were not specific on how many strips need to be cut. For example ... Omigosh pattern tells me how many double nine patch blocks I need and the size of the blocks. It was up to ME and MY math skills to figure out how many 1" strips I needed to cut of each color (to make 110 blocks!). Then there are the 109 Shoo Fly blocks I still need to do the math on.

The old adage applys here too measure twice and cut once. Also been there and i got the t shirt.

It's so humbling when we do make these mistakes! And it's such a good learning experience!

You're not the only one.

lol. Been there, done that, more than once. Would think a person would learn.

That's beautiful, Sharon! That's exactly what I have, a surplus of half-square triangles. It will be fun to see what I can do with them. Possibilities, possibilities...

We have all been there, done that! I try to follow the old
adage, "measure/check three times, cut once". Just think you can incorporate those pieces into another quilt with your cutting work all done!

I hate when I read the first part of the pattern and then my mind thinks "I wonder what would happen if I do this" and I'm off and running doing something that has nothing to do with the proper way to make the pattern.

You figured that out early. I made the same error a lot of times by being in a hurry to start a quilt and not reading the pattern more then once. At least you were able to use the material. Believe me every quilt has some sort of boo boo.
