Best Husband EVER!

1 Attachment(s)
My husband got me a new sewing machine for our anniversary this week!! I was not expecting it at all - I'd put one on my amazon wish list thinking maybe I'd get it for Chanukah/Christmas.

It's a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. It came with an INSANE package of add-ons - an extension table, almost 20 different feet, and a hard case, automatic thread cutter, automatic needle threader to name a few. Basically the only feature I would have wanted that it doesn't have is a knee lift presser foot. It also can do over 600 different stiches - I was playing around with it last night and made the picture attached just trying things out. It is also SO MUCH QUIETER than my old machine. People always talk about watching TV when they're sewing, and I always thought "how can you possibly watch TV over the noise of the sewing machine??" I honestly didn't realize that it was not the norm that mine sounded like a freaking jackhammer.

I know it's not as fancy as the machines that some of you have, but considering that my last machine was a $79 Singer 1507 that did 8 stitches, had a needle that fit crookedly in the shank, and had no electronic features, it's a HUGE step up for me. And given the array of features and accessories, I feel like it was a really good value for the price at only $330!

Congrats, mazel tov, and enjoy your new friend! What's her name? My Singer's name is Delilah, so when I get mad at her, I can sing that Tom Jones song Why, why why Delilah instead of cursing at her!

MaryStoaks 08-24-2012 09:28 AM

Congratulations! Nice machine and nice hubby too!

Knitette 08-24-2012 09:43 AM

That's a lot of machine for the money :). The same model retails here at £549, approximately $870! Your husband is a sweetheart.

What a great gift! I have an older Singer Quantum and it has never given me one minute of trouble. It makes a better straight stitch then my Bernina. It has the best auto needle threader then any I have used on any machine. I'm not loyal to any brand of sewing machines and have Janome, Brother, Singer, Bernina and have had Pfaff so I have compared most brands with actual use.

Marycumi 08-24-2012 11:46 AM

Enjoy your new machine and your hubby to the max.

Good to know! I know that Singer doesn't have the greatest reputation, but the reviews online for this machine were overwhelmingly positive. And with an array of features that is on par with models from other brands that are 2x or 3x more expensive, it seems like a steal.

Hubs is very thoughtful - I thought he would make fun of me for quilting (we're in our 20s and I've only been doing it a few months), but he gets so excited about everything I make. So far I've only made things for other people, and he keeps asking if we can keep them :)

patski 08-24-2012 12:18 PM

Sounds like a wonderful hubby and he did a great job at choosing a machine. The highest price machines are not always the very best! Looks like you can do a wonderful "crazy quilt" useing some of those top stitches!

Jingle 08-24-2012 12:54 PM

Enjoy your machine, if it does what you want that is all that counts. Lucky you.

Wine Woman 08-24-2012 01:28 PM

Wow! what a guy! and how did he know which one to buy? How many ads or hints did you have to leave laying around?!!!! Congratulations I feel your excitement and know how happy this is! Enjoy!

barri1 08-24-2012 01:31 PM

sherryt1258 08-24-2012 02:04 PM

Congratulations on your new machine. I know you will so enjoy all you can do with it. I am so happy for you!

Quilty-Louise 08-24-2012 02:09 PM

You have an awesome husband.

Last month I went to the local Brother dealer to pick up some
Floriani Embroidery thread and was asking questions about the
10 needle embroidery machine (commercial).

They gave me a flyer about the machine and I went home with it.
However by the time I got home and went up the 3 flights of stairs
my bladder was about to bust, so I dropped everything I had in my
hands onto the table; well my hubs saw the flyer and was reading
it. When I went back to my desk there sat the flyer with a sticky
note attached that said "keep dreaming" love you, T.

So I guess that means no way is he going to surprise me with that
machine.

of course we ARE talking about a machine that costs more than my
car did when I bought it.

lonestardreams 08-24-2012 02:33 PM

Those are great stitches. Congratulations on the anniversary and the great husband.

Wanabee Quiltin 08-24-2012 02:54 PM

carolynjo 08-25-2012 04:10 AM

Congratulations on your anniversary, your new toy, and a wonderful, thoughtful husband who was on the same wave-length as you. Enjoy creating on your wonderful machine. The stitches look great.

lisalovesquilting 08-25-2012 04:59 AM

#1piecemaker 08-25-2012 05:01 AM

OHHHHHHH Boy!!! Did he ever do good! I love the little doggie stitch!! Nice machine!! Congraduations!!!

Latrinka 08-25-2012 05:05 AM

Happy Anniversary and congrats on your new machine! Beautiful stitches!

mlt150 08-25-2012 05:38 AM

A big congrats on your new machine!!!! I think sometimes we focus on the bells and whistles of the top machines and then when we get them they are not used (me). The knee lifter bugs me and I never use it!! Enjoy.

roserips 08-25-2012 05:42 AM

Enjoy your new machine, and remember if the old one sounded like a jack hammer maybe it was crying for oil and cleaning they like that especially when enjoyed as we do. I always do a drop of oil on the bobbin race every bobbin. Keeps them very happy and purrring like a kitten.
