Boston1954 01-02-2009 03:07 PM

Well did we all finish our projects? I was actually going to ask this question two nights ago, but I forgot when Jim suggested pizza for New Year's dinner. (oops)

retrogirl02 01-02-2009 03:16 PM

Sorry to say Boston that I fell completely short. Life has been keeping me rather busy with other stuff but I'm glad you're keeping me focused! I need to get back into it and want to start racing through this one.

bj 01-02-2009 03:21 PM

I'm finishing mine right now. It was a BOM at the LQS and I just got the last block. I have the top all put together, but I haven't got it sandwiched and quilted. I think I'm going to order a fatback instead of piecing the back. Or I may just get some muslin for the back. I hate piecing the backs! And it will give me a really nice piece of fabric to use from something else. :) :) Win, win...right?

mary quite contrary 01-02-2009 03:24 PM

http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/13642.page

Here's the link to mine that I finished. I also have another top almost quilted because of you. You got me started!!!!

My goal for this year is to have less UFOs than last year.

Thanks.

Boston1954 01-02-2009 03:27 PM

Well now, for those of us who could not make it for New Year's, I could extend the deadline. That will maybe push me back in the sewing room and I can get going on another one. I have not sewn a thing in two weeks with the exception of a button on hubby's pants.

Good for you Mary. It does make things a bit easier when others are in the same boat.

So for the challenge, how about Valentine's Day?

Jim's Gem 01-02-2009 03:27 PM

I finished all that I had set my mind to finish. That was 4 wedding gifts and my son's quilt. I have a whole stack of UFO's to work on this year. But first I have a baby quilt to make and am going to start in a few min.

gigi2landon 01-02-2009 03:42 PM

Define UFO. 8)

sandpat 01-02-2009 04:06 PM

Well...I kinda did and I kinda didn't. I did finish the 2 that I committed to for the challenge. I finished the top of my Heartsong day before yesterday, but I just talked about including it in the challenge. There is no way I'll be through quilting it by V-day. I'm piecing the back now, then to sandwich and quilt.

Now I have made 2 other commitments to my time...embroider some shirts for the Angus Assoc. Youth group fund raising auction..and a friend wants me to make a baby quilt for her friend..so..of course...I committed myself .... AGAIN...

Lucky Patsy's 01-02-2009 05:43 PM

I didn't finish mine! In fact I bought 41 yards of fabric at a private sale to benefit Project Linus, and have been thumbing through old American Patchwork and Quilting magazines trying to decide what I will do with all of it! So I probably ended up with 4 more UFOs, or maybe they are just PIGs yet!

raksmum 01-03-2009 12:03 AM

gigi2landon, a UFO is an "unfinished object". Any projects that are started and not finished we call them UFO's

Boston1954 01-03-2009 07:23 AM

Patsy's Mom..........what is a PIG (besides a barnyard animal)?

Joan 01-03-2009 08:43 AM

I got distracted by making Christmas gifts but need to back to work. Although, during the holidays I managed (when visiting, etc.) to buy more fabric and think of more "new" projects......(always more exciting than a UFO......we'll see)

Quilting Aggi 01-03-2009 10:42 AM

sniff.. sniff... I didn't complete it :( wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh haaaaaaaa!!!!!!

But it is on my list for this year!! I added to my list in my blog. So I HAVE to complete it now!

Elizabeth A. 01-03-2009 10:43 AM

I finished! :) Now I have WIP's instead of UFO's LOL!

mary quite contrary 01-03-2009 10:51 AM

OK, Elizabeth, did you just move them from UFO to WIP? I'm not sure that is fair. LOL. (I hope you know I am just joking around here.)

Elizabeth A. 01-03-2009 10:53 AM

Nope, they really all did get done. Everything I'm working on now was started Dec. '08. :D

mary quite contrary 01-03-2009 11:08 AM

I'm jealous. I guess I need to get myself busy!!!!!

gigi2landon 01-03-2009 11:34 AM

um ok, then i have WIP's. Lots of tops done, not quilted or would that be a TDNQ?

sandpat 01-03-2009 04:16 PM

littlehud 01-03-2009 05:31 PM

Ok. I finished almost all oh mine. Now it's a new year and I started out by creating more. LOL. I'll get them all done someday. LOL

gigi2landon 01-04-2009 06:20 PM

RATS, I thought I'd created a new acronymn! hehe

oh well, I'm sending all these tops to the long arm quilter anyway. SO Technically I'm finished with them. Hum.......

Boston 1954, PIGS are Projects In Grocery Sacks! Purchased and planned but not yet started! My sewing room is very porky!

Barbm 01-05-2009 01:10 PM

I finished my ugly quilt and my niece's quilt. I have 1 more- don't care for it, so I'm ignoring it.

I won't start anything without finishing it. no more wips/ufos for me!

Barbm

kd124 01-06-2009 12:28 AM

I got mine done, but have been waiting for my sis to take a digital pic so I can get it posted. Thanks for the challenge because who knows when I would have finished it. It was started to take to meetings to work on and it never worked out that I could work on it. I got sidetracked by Christmas but hustled after Christmas to finish it.

OK, Barb, can we hold you to that?

PamH 01-09-2009 03:52 AM

Yep I got all 6 of the granddaughters quilts made for Christmas!!

Skeat 01-09-2009 04:16 AM

I was a late starter on the UFO projects:))I started in November:0)I have 3 done!! And, just a few left. I am going to keep going until even my projects that I have stashed fabrics for are done:))So, at the end of this year I will be so saaaad about the lack of projects, I will have to do it again:))That buying and stacking thing:))I still have 3 BOM's that I need to catch up...detailed ones:))I did finish 2 of my other ones. If I had that amazing quilting machine w/frame here, I just know I could keep caught up:))LOL Don't you think?!! I'm just sure of it!:))Skeat.........who had to turn my head and hold it that direction w/my hand when asked by my LQS if I wanted to do the black and white and 30's BOM!! I soooo could...:))but, didn't!Pulled myself out of that store scratching and scream'n out the door;)

Barbm 01-09-2009 08:00 AM

funny Gail :) I will do my best to stick to that goal!

I made a list of projects for the year. I have 11 "Must do", 2 "if I have to", 5 wips- stuff I cut out but didn't like so I set aside, this includes the 2 I am working on right now- can that be classified as UFO?, hmmmm. Then I have the list of 5- "whenever, they haven't asked lately" projects I have the fabric for but haven't started.

It's supposed to snow tomorrow- 3 to 6 inches. I figure I can finish the 2 I'm working on and sandwich and quilt 2 wips. That will make a lot of stuff crossed off the list. Cool.

My goal is to FINISH this list by March. A lot of them I know I can do easily, but need to find the time. (Gosh- I certainly hope people stop having babies, too- that messes up the project list- j/k)

I know what you mean. I don't write down the list of UFOs etc. because I don't want to have a nervous breakdown SEEING what I have ahead of me. This morning, I'm handstitching the last binding on my 8-yr-old UFO. It's a great feeling. As we Cajuns say, "Talk about gooooood."

mary quite contrary 01-09-2009 09:09 AM

I've tried making a list and prioritizing them then I find things I have put somewhere else and then there are all of you giving me even more ideas. How's that for passing the blame?

A fatback is a quilt back that you can buy, they are sized just right for a Queen sized quilt. You can find them here. http://www.christianlanequilters.com...ge/5735337.htm

Elizabeth A. 01-09-2009 09:39 AM

You're welcome Loretta, you just have to be careful and watch the prices there. Sometimes it's cheaper to look at the wide width fabrics at http://www.thousandsofbolts.com

Watch it !! That's also a characteristic of a highly intelligent person.

WELL--- the 8-yr-old UFO is FINISHED !!! DONE !!! As of 10:10 PM tonight. Still have the label to do, but the quilt is done. Amen.

Feathers 01-10-2009 05:14 AM

Hi Gail
OK, you convinced me.....I;ll be "highly intelligent"

Boston1954 01-10-2009 09:47 AM

I am proud of all of you. Those who finished, that is great! Those who did not finish, at least you worked on them bit and got them closer to BEING finished. Do you feel good? I sure do.

Skeat 01-10-2009 01:57 PM

Yes, Anne...it does feel good to find some empty space!:)I just had to force myself to look at the 'ugly' in a couple of those projects! One was a BOM from this past year that I had only finished 1 block and figured out later the why....cause it was really ugly! The first block gave it away, and I was committed so I tucked away after sewing the first 1! I about bailed ship though today!! Right in the middle of one of my UFO's....I am so wanting this batik pattern w/batiks...and if that shop would have been open for a bit longer then the 10min I would have had on arrival...I'd been out of here! But, I have maintained control...only because of that...and, I am back sewing my little windmills...again...Skeat:)
