I don't long arm quilt. If a need a longarmer I call my cousin. Haven't made anything bigger than crib size and quilted that one myself on my DSM. Just use my winder that is attached to my machine.

I have a question - my Brother CS-100 bobbin winder just stopped working. I've looked through the manual and can't find any repair solutions. It did have some thread wound around the shaft that I removed - after that, it quit working! Should have left the threads on it!! Any suggestions?

I've always used the winder on my machine without any problems. I have a bobbin winder and I CAN'T use it to wind the thread for my bobbins because I have a Viking and it winds in the opposite direction. I have old machines and the latest high cost machines and I've never had any problems and never heard of this before. My machines also allows me to wind the bobbin while I sew or do embroidery.

I have a Viking machine, 10 years now, once in awhile (like when I didn't plan well for an embroidery) I pull out my "Side Winder" and use it to wind a bobbin or 2...I've never had a problem, so am just wondering why you believe it can not be used? I don't all the time most of the time I use the built in winder but on those occasions I've needed to it's been ok

So, I just read a post that the sidewinder winds them in the wrong direction... Guess that's why I've always put the bobbins on backwards (it was the only way they went on for me-but,it worked)

Doesn't take that long to wind a bobbin. While I use one machine, I wind on the other.

I always use the bobbin winder on my machine. I like to have 2 spools of each thread--one for filling the bobbins and one for the top of the machine--this way I don't have to unthread the machine to fill a bobbin.

I fill 5-10 bobbins at a time, depending on which machine they're for. For my FeatherWeight I wind 10 because that's the machine I use for piecing. The Brother, Singer & Kenmore maybe 2-5.
