If you want a beautiful quilt, go with no border. If you want a truly magnificent quilt, go with the border you have auditioned in your second picture!!

luvstoquilt 01-13-2018 04:48 AM

Border for sure is my vote!

Karamarie 01-13-2018 04:55 AM

Both nice, but my vote goes to using borders.

quilterpurpledog 01-13-2018 04:57 AM

I'm like others in that the quilt has lovely colors that looks so nice in a modern way-but, something dramatic missing. The added purple border added that dramatic touch. I really think the border makes the quilt's footprint dramatic! I do like the borderless modern quilts-but not this time. Looking forward to seeing the finish.

Homespun 01-13-2018 05:29 AM

It is beautiful...border for me!

lindaschipper 01-13-2018 06:06 AM

Adding a border makes all the other colors "Pop". I vote to add the border.

fivepaws 01-13-2018 06:08 AM

That border is just perfect.

SusieQOH 01-13-2018 06:10 AM

When I saw the first picture I said no border but when I saw the second one I said yes!!! It's gorgeous either way though.

margied 01-13-2018 06:14 AM

definitely with the border. makes the quilt pop. really nice

patsan 01-13-2018 06:19 AM

I like the border!

sprice 01-13-2018 06:31 AM

Dina, Please tell us more about the quilt. The pattern name? Was this made in large blocks? I love it both ways but vote for the border.

kraftykc 01-13-2018 06:56 AM

My first reaction was no border until I saw the border you chose. I say border.

bkay 01-13-2018 07:20 AM

I'm definitely not in the majority here, but I think it needs a white border (I'm assuming the the background color is white.) before you start the purple ones. I don't think it needs to be very wide, just enough to separate the borders from the quilt. I'd audition it, at least.

It is called Ridiculously Easy Jelly Roll Quilt and it is free online....simply google that. It is made up of 29 strips, each 70 inches long. I started with a jelly roll, but you could make your own strips. I didn't find it ridiculously easy though, mainly because I kept cutting some of the pieces the wrong size, and I got really bored sewing the 29 strips together.

Thanks for the thought. I did audition the small white border. It just didn't appeal to me. Nor did a small turquoise one. (I have been play "decide on a border...or not" for about two days now. :) )

I was thinking it needed a border but had no idea what you needed and then I saw your second picture and that is a wonderful choice. It will be beautiful. I think the border just frames out your nice quilt beautifully. You go girl!!!! Please share a pic when you finish.

klswift 01-13-2018 07:57 AM

I think a border really sets it off. I like the idea of a softer narrow border then the bolder print. Any of the colors in the top would work to that same effect, simply a matter of which one you want to feature. BTW - really, really like this quilt!

greaterexp 01-13-2018 08:15 AM

The border really adds a new dimension!

Irishrose2 01-13-2018 08:19 AM

I can see where it would get boring sewing the long strips, but your result is stunning. I like your bolder colors. Here is the tutorial. http://frombolttobeauty.blogspot.com...elly-roll.html

red-warrior 01-13-2018 08:51 AM

I too like the border!

zozee 01-13-2018 09:17 AM

Definitely the border makes it sing. I liked it in the first picture, but when I saw the second, I thought, yes! That's even better! This is coming from someone who doesn't usually favor borders unless it absolutely enhances the design. In this case, for example.

Love to see pictures when you're finished!

Calran 01-13-2018 09:44 AM

Border looks great!

carolynjo 01-13-2018 09:55 AM

I am a border person, always.

I had the exact same reaction. Beautiful either way, but the borders really make it wow!

sewingsuz 01-13-2018 12:18 PM

Yes, I like it with the boarder! Your quilt is beautiful.

trolleystation 01-13-2018 03:35 PM

Borders make your quilt awesome.

JanieH 01-13-2018 04:35 PM

Definitely with the borders. Love your choices!

Veinurse 01-13-2018 06:33 PM

I love it either way!

quiltlady1941 01-13-2018 06:56 PM

stillvnu 01-13-2018 09:10 PM

Yes to the border! Try the inner border with the aqua/green color ...

Crispy_Frog 01-13-2018 10:52 PM

I'd go with the border.

bearisgray 01-14-2018 03:58 AM

Totally agree with QuiltnNan

Battle Axe 01-14-2018 04:31 AM

The border really frames the quilt and sets it off.

stichinluvr 01-14-2018 05:23 AM

When I read the caption and first saw the picture - I thought no. Then I saw your second picture and yea, that would look great.

I totally agree. The border fabric you have is perfect.

susie reardon 01-14-2018 07:06 AM

I think the border is very striking!! Gorgeous quilt and use of color!!

momsbusy 01-14-2018 07:29 AM

My first instinct was no, but when I saw your borders they looked great. Definitely go with the borders.

Bobbielinks 01-14-2018 08:22 AM

I don't care for borders; and leaving them off gives your quilt a very modern look. That said, I love the purple borders you have picked out and would certainly apply them to this quilt. Great choice!!

jeanb 01-14-2018 08:35 AM

Gorgeous quilt. The border is perfect!
