Speaking as an old newspaper, yearbook, and magazine layout person, pictures always faced to the center of the page, never to the outside.

Not sure if that rule goes for quilts....as if quilts have rules!!!! But I would have them face inside. When the baby is lying on the blanket, they would be looking at the baby. I like that image. :)

I like facing in. But a child sure wouldn't care either way!

2nd photon is my favorite.

I like the second picture, too. The first one makes me feel like I have to tilt my head.

The second picture... that just "looks right"... is that called facing "in" or "out"?

Not a dumb question, I was thinking the same thing. I like the second one, which I too would call "facing in" because they are facing towards the middle of the quilt. :?:. The other way looks like the kids have their backs to the quilt :?

I don't think it much matters to the baby. I don't think they know up from down yet. I think it is whatever you like. Personally I put them facing out. I have even put the border so that the top and bottom are facing the same direction and the sides are with the length of the fabric so all borders are in the same direction. Is that confusing or what?!?!?

I like inward.

I usually fce them outwardly so that they are easily recognised by the viewer. If you think the child's view is more important, face them inwardly so that you can discuss the characters with them as they progress.
