Do I need to add a border to this snowman quilt? The pattern calls for a 6" border, but I like it the way it is now.

MrsM 02-01-2011 07:50 AM

You don't have to but maybe a smaller boarder in red would frame it nicely.

Scrapquilt 02-01-2011 07:55 AM

I think I would do a small red border.

nativetexan 02-01-2011 07:58 AM

it's your quilt. you don't have to add a border. if you do though, a white one would be good. more of a winter look. cute quilt!!!

BETTY62 02-01-2011 07:58 AM

It is really cute but I agree a small red border would look nice.

shequilts 02-01-2011 07:59 AM

I think a red binding would ust finish this off beautifully. It's a very nice quilt.

cowpie2 02-01-2011 08:00 AM

If you bind with red you would have a framing border that would look nice. Totally personal preference on the 6" border the pattern calls for.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-01-2011 08:02 AM

Patterns are suggestions not mandates. If you like it, leave it be.

I agree, a red binding would finish it off nicely.

The red border would look like a continuation of the red around the snowmen blocks. It would just top the quilt off. But that is my opinion and I think it will look just as nice with no border. Maybe a red binding would be just as effective. Have fun and the quilt makes snow look nice, not like the snow blowing across the road

littlehud 02-01-2011 08:41 AM

I would put a border on it but if you like it the way it is go for it. It's beautiful either way. Thanks for sharing.

sidmona 02-01-2011 08:44 AM

It's your quilt, you can finish it any way you want, no quilt (or pattern) police here. If you do add a border, a red would be nice.

Bobbielinks 02-01-2011 08:45 AM

I love your snowman quilt! I'm like you, I would not want to put a border on it. Red binding would be great.

Charming 02-01-2011 08:46 AM

I wouldn't really put a big border. Maybe just 1-1 1/2" just to pop your quilt should do. It looks beautiful

Bobbielinks 02-01-2011 08:47 AM

By the way, I like your design wall!

habell07 02-01-2011 08:49 AM

The pattern calls for a red border with a green binding. I'm thinking about just adding the green binding with no border.

Iluv2quilt 02-01-2011 08:51 AM

I really like your quilt! It will look great either way you choose.

kateyb 02-01-2011 09:17 AM

To quote one of our speakers at guild. It is your quilt do what YOU want.

davidwent 02-01-2011 09:20 AM

I agree with most others, it's yours do as you wish. Myself I would put a red boarde, and then the green binding would really be a nice addition
My 2 cents

minstrel 02-01-2011 09:23 AM

I think a narrow red border or simply a red binding would set it off nicely. I think a 6" border might be too much, personally, but as it was already put...no quilt police around here. :-)

np3 02-01-2011 09:32 AM

I have this panel and a quilt pattern that makes it much larger (more fabrics added). I think the size of the panel is the reason for adding the border. Is it big enough to be a quilt without the border? Are you using it for a wall hanging? I think that should be considered as well.

Agree

MerryQuilter 02-02-2011 03:50 AM

Very cute!

pollyjvan9 02-02-2011 04:15 AM

Darling quilt! If you like it, bind it! I would use the red to match the inner borders if you aren't going to add another border.

piepatch 02-02-2011 04:41 AM

First of all, I love your quilt ! While I love it the way it is, I think a border might make it even better. The outside cornerstones seem to "float" without a border. Why not "audition" some border fabrics and see how they look. If the pattern calls for a 6" border, try that as well, and see if you like it. Either way, it is a darling quilt.

#1piecemaker 02-02-2011 05:02 AM

I'd just use a red binding. Love the quilt. So cute!

JoyjoyMarie 02-02-2011 05:08 AM

Very cute quilt! It will be perfect whatever way it's maker wants to finish it!

msawicki64 02-02-2011 05:23 AM

I agree do what you like best but I think a thin christmas green would look nice.

ckcowl 02-02-2011 05:23 AM

if you like it the way it is ... keep it the way it is...it's your project do what ever you want with it

bstroud51 02-02-2011 05:48 AM

No border means that you will loose a little bit of the of the print design on the corners.

pieces 02-02-2011 05:49 AM

Depends if you like the size or not. If the size is O.K. then add a red binding and call it finished.
If you want a larger quilt add a red border to finish it.
A really cute quilt, great whichever way you decide to go.

Barbshobbies 02-02-2011 05:52 AM

I like it the way it is, but before you add a boarder, lay some material along the edge, of red, green and white, and you will get an idea of how it will look. Also if you want or need the quilt to be bigger.

RuthV 02-02-2011 05:57 AM

I think I small black border and then red binding would make it look just great.

maryb119 02-02-2011 05:57 AM

I would just bind it in red unless you want it a little larger. Then add a red border.

lillybeck 02-02-2011 06:21 AM

It is your quilt so do what you like.

happy sewer 02-02-2011 06:23 AM

I say put a border on it, bcause the pattern pulls your eye off the quilt, the same way a picture has to be framed sometimes not to pull your eye out of the picture. Hope that makes sense. It is a beautiful snowman quilt.

quiltmom04 02-02-2011 06:34 AM

I'd put at least a red binding. Seems like it needs to 'contained' a bit. It's very cute!

theresa.redington 02-02-2011 06:39 AM

I like the idea from the others and add asmall red border and then bind it off with green. But it is your quilt and there are many options in quilting. Remember you have to like it! :o)

Mariah 02-02-2011 06:46 AM

Like the others said; maybe a narrow Red Border, but I like it the way it is. Very clever and pretty.

stormatsea45 02-02-2011 07:32 AM

I like it the way it is. But audition a red border. Lay a strip of the fabric under the edge of your quilt at different widths, and then you can see if the red border would be something that would make it look more finished, or if you still like it as is. Remember you are the "queen of your quilt".
